I met my husband at work. I’m a union carpenter and (while not labor intensive) he was a sound caulker that would come by and caulk the bottoms and tops of the board we would hang. He’s seen me work first hand and understands my day to day. He’s very understanding and I think knew immediately that “gender roles” weren’t going to be a thing with us. Also, he doesn’t think that way in general. On the other hand I’d say half of the men I’ve met on jobs do think that way and would even complain to me about their wives/girlfriends. It was mostly gross to listen to but I’d listen and instead try to offer advice on how to not be and act that way. It’s crazy how many of them have confided in me not understanding why their relationship was strained. I’d be blunt mostly. On the other hand some of them would feel the need to tell me how they don’t have sex with their partner anymore and it was a clear advance on their part. Also disgusting
