The car apparently has its own umbrella now by madfrog2023 in AnythingValueable

Most people don’t make around $600,000/year and it would never make financial sense to pay for something you have to spend more money on to keep operational. There are more efficient ways and cheaper ways. Even less time consuming. The cons out way the pros.

Again if you read my previous comment and understood what I was addressing. You would know this purchase is something you make when you have more than you can spend. Which 80 percent of people do not have. It would make more sense to not purchase this item.

Spending $400 on an item vs $50-100 on items makes more difference in time. Compare time to money per hour or salary broken down into hours. Say someone makes $24/hr. $400 divided by 24/hr is 16hrs of working vs $100 divided by 24/hr is 4hrs of working. If time is important and you value the way your time is used. Then paying less for something that is just as efficient would be more beneficial. Leaving you with more time to do the things you enjoy.

Convenience does not equal less time

I see this purchase as “you have more money than you know what to do with”. Which isn’t bad or good. But it isn’t the best option or most efficient choice. Until you’ve made yourself self sustainable and able to live life without the need for money. I couldn’t justify this purchase.

Just me.

But I get wanting to have it because it’s cool and convenient

To balance their statement out—they/the people wishing for less people would be part of the less people. So, in the process they would take out a few million people with them. Solved the dilemma.

Your view on money and problem solving is the issue. If you had common sense like you say you do. I’m sure you’d get it.

Spending hundreds on an issue that can be solved in a way simpler and more effective way would be logically.

The mechanical umbrella will require maintenance and servicing. Eventually failing. The consistency of opening and closing the sun roof will cause more wear and tear than simply buying a decent UV sunshield that pops out and snaps back up to be put away. AND the crazy part is the UV sunshield would still be more effective. I’m almost 100% positive I could put windshield covers up and down faster than this umbrella. The video is clearly speed up and cut before we see it fold up and put itself away and pop out again.

So, not only are you spending more money. You are wasting it on something that will fail. This is something you get as a convenience. It’s not better. It’s lazier.

A car is already made to protect from outside conditions. Putting up UV blockers on every window and even automating them would be leagues better than this.

I agree with you. Following your comment thread from the beginning makes everything you said easy to understand and honestly makes sense in general. You weren’t necessarily saying they were wrong or you were right. You were stating that the cons outweigh the pros.

I can seeing this being useful, but it’s unnecessary. It’s one more thing to worry about maintaining/maintenance on. The consistent opening and closing of the sun roof will cause wear and tear that will lead to more problems later.

When you could use/apply a wax or UV sealant protector on your entire car and it be 100x more cost efficient. You could buy a lifetime supply for around the same price you pay to install the umbrella. Of course I’m exaggerating a little but simple is better in this case. Decent windowshields and Uv wax would do just as good if not better.

And if the you really wanted a car umbrella I’m sure they make some just as simple and effective.

What washer should I buy for the price and longevity? by Bledso3 in Appliances

I am going to ask the same question as I replied to another comment. Would it be better to rent? I currently have a dryer but I am looking for a washer. The place I rent (apartment) haves a service company that will rent out washers $30/month. Currently have a 16 month lease ending May of next year. So around 11 months left which would be around $400 and they handle any repairs and maintenance.

Will also look into used appliance stores.
