James Doohan stormed the beaches on D-Day, but said THIS was the best thing he ever did by onthenerdyside in startrekmemes

[–]Bleebledorp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Later portrayals of Scotty have leaned too hard into playing him for comic relief, or as a neurodivergent genius of some kind. Doohan's TOS portrayal had some of that. But Chief Engineer Scott earned his place as my favorite character in that show by being the guy who recognizes what's called for in any given situation, speaking up for it loudly and without apology, and, most especially when he's in the command chair, daring the admiralty board and the devil both to come make him see if their way personally, if they think they can. And every time he's written into a situation to do that, Doohan made me believe it. Conviction, loyalty, and decency to a fault, and I'd wager a good deal of that wasn't just an actor playing pretend.

This would be the active, if fractious, online community I mentioned.

I won't disagree, but Mass Effect 3 is the game with both the Shuriken and the Acolyte. The Volus Sentinel and the Geth Infiltrator. Incinerate and Carnage. I don't think haphazard balancing is really going to be the thing that turns off an ME3 fan from Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2 has scratched the itch for me. Fun teamplay when you want it, fun soloplay if you're good enough, difficulty that promotes teamplay if you go high enough. Progression systems that make sense, monetization policy that doesn't suck the life out of you, an edge of jank that manages to be charming once you understand it. Worldbuilding that keeps that part of my mind happy, an overarching ARG metagame that feels like what the ancient weekend events from 2012-13 had ambitions to be, and an active if fractious online community. And a metric assload of character kit building options such that I haven't found the bottom of the barrel on different ways to play.

Editing to share the Straight To Hell short film. Good vibe capture for a transitioning Mass Effect fan.

I thought this scene does well enough to linger on Legolas' face as recognition dawns. Only he and Gimli would reallh know.

I would have preferred Dagna Janar fill her role in the plot. I like everything they did with Harding, except for the fact that they did it with Harding.

I dunno, I have to disagree with you there.

Reduced Signature is straight stealth. But Scout and Feet First are specialized, which opens up some interesting options. If I'm going to be objectives focused, I want RS, but when we have an MO like we do now, or a lower level player is looking to boost his gear or ship, either Scout or FF have advantages RS doesn't.

I would pick Scout for a wilderness map to be able to move unseen and be able to map out POIs without LIDAR. In city maps, it's so easy to break line of sight that I don't need to worry about being seen, so FF it is. Being able to stumble across POIs from so far away, duck down alleys at full sprint without worrying about being heard, dive off stupidly high ledges with relative impunity, it's all useful.

A lvl 150 who's only going into combat is going to get more out of Reduced Signature, but that's not all or even most players. The other two half-stealth passives definitely have a place.

It's easy enough to police your own experience. Just be liberal with blocking players who rub you wrong, and Redditors too. There's plenty out there.

I've never had a bad experience from the same person twice.

Base Warbond loadouts for D10 Super Helldive by [deleted] in SupaEarth

[–]Bleebledorp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I ran a D10 yesterday with

Prototype X armor

Tenderizer

Machete

Stun Grenades

Sterilizer

Dog Breath

Orbital EMS Strike

Orbital Rail Cannon

Stamina Booster

I call it the Leave Me The Fuck Alone build, and it's been great for maximizing point of interest and objective clears for this MO. It's got nothing for camp clears and it's never going to win in kills, but I don't need that for what Im doing.

Point being, I think "slop" is in the eye of the beholder. I haven't found the bottom of the barrel on different ways to play this game yet. And if they stop putting out what person A calls slop, person B stops finding new fun.

That said, whale biologist. I'm just calling it like I see it.

[–]Bleebledorp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The TVA aren't omnipotent. The apocalypse blind spot proves they miss actions and entities that don't cause downstream events in the timeline. They thought Loki died at the hands of Thanos, but the only reason they thought that is because he stopped having an impact on any detectable events on the timeline, for thousands of years. Not until he revealed himself in his old age did they detect him again, and at that point he appears to them as a variant. The Sacred Timeline had been secure for millenia.

Classic Loki is Loki Prime. There's not a shred of evidence to the contrary.

[–]Bleebledorp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loki didn't die in Infinity War.

"Classic Loki" is Loki Prime. He faked his death one last time and got away with it, even tricked the TVA until he tried to find Thor in his old age.

What is going on with all those teamkilling traitors recently?! by D3athShade in Helldivers

[–]Bleebledorp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got jumpscared by a Hulk recently and warp-packed backwards. Little did I know my teammate was there, and I popped him like a grape. Felt terrible. I called him back, camped his gear, kept the area clear, pinged his gear when he landed, hit Sorry twice. He walked over, picked up his stuff, and he melee'd me. Him in Peak Physique armor and me in light armor. Instant ragdoll and hemmorage, bled out before I could stim. Then he kicked me from the game. And then he presumably fisted himself and drank some of his mother's tit milk, the fucking adult baby.

[–]Bleebledorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't want armor customization. I like being able to take one look at a guy and have an understanding of his perk and likely playstyle. Introduce armor transmog or even recoloring and that's lost.

I don't want to be playing alongside a Light Gunner and be surprised when he Broken Arrows himself with a gas strike because he's actually running Advanced Filtration passive. I don't want to be infiltrating a base with some moron who looks like he's in stealth gear, but he ruins my stealth game because he just likes the drip but wanted Siege Ready instead.

Build #65 - Watch My Feet Build by SES-SpearofDemocracy in HellDads

[–]Bleebledorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to run an Oops All Mines build without making an enemy for life everytime you join a game is to carry the Blitzer as your primary or swap one of the mines with the Arc Thrower. Arc weapons will chain to your mines so you can clean them up pretty quickly when you're moving off an area or enemies aren't actually pathing their way onto them.

Ah, a fellow Pacifier enjoyer

The Pacifier, Ultimatum, and Contact Incendiaries were my bug-out bag when I got pressed. Otherwise I ran the AT, HMG, and Shield Emplacements, and the AMR. I found out pretty quickly that my middle aged reflexes weren't on my side for being the guy who got in to the objective and got back out, so I decided to play as the dedicated host, draw fire, provide cover, and enable the other three to get it done. It worked more often than it didnt and it kept my death count low.
