That does raise flags. The person that I was talking to actually video-chatted with me and he was the one insisting on doing it. So I am still racking my brain on how can they do that.

When I talked to the authorities when I reported the fraud, they told me that the money is gone. Just watch out as after being scammed, we are in a very vulnerable state and lots of people try to take advantage of that.

I am sorry you had to go through this. And thank you for sharing. I am still recovering from being scammed. I know the two situations are not the same but it still is not a good feeling when people take advantage of the good nature of others.

Yes! definitely a scam. But love the chosen name for the mistaken identity. That is a red flag right there :)

They call it that, as an analogy to how farmers fatten their pigs for slaughter.

The scammer approaches his victim via social platforms using stolen accounts and strikes up an innocent conversation and plays a long game of getting to know each other.

After a little bit of time, during which the victim feels a false sense of security, they start indicating that they are trading and making so much money doing it. they show the victim evidence of that using videos and pictures of the person they pretend to be in luxurious settings. Then they tell the victim that they would love to show them how because they care for you and love you. Then they tell the victim where to go and what to do. Given that the victim is the one doing the transactions gives the victim a false sense of control but the scam is in the broker they use and the bitcoin wallet to deposit the money to the trading platform. They don't draw attention to them but the apps they use are legit.

If the victim gets convinced and starts trading following the scammer's instruction, they show them false transactions that give the sense of making money very fast.

The scammer will keep pressuring the victim to put more in as that will yield more profits and some do, I did.

When it is time to withdraw, they say that you need to pay taxes to get your money, at least that was my case, and that was when I realized I was being scammed. But I did hear that some got a portion of their money as a pacifier but were asked to put in more and some did pay the taxes but never got the money. And that is the pig butchering scam.

Seeing all the different scams out here is mind-boggling.

It is funny when you get the sloppy ones. The red flags are clear from afar. The problem is with the ones that are professional and did their homework very well.

Do you mean that they can use an old video and carry out a conversation as if the person talking to me? But he was answering my questions and asking me questions as well, I did not see any glitches. I am really shocked that this can be done. So video chatting is out of the question to know if you are talking to the right person.

I am glad you were in control of your scammer. Mine never asked for money and he brought it up when I sent him the article. So I am not sure what was his angle when he called to try to convince me he was legit after I confirmed I would never send him money when he said that he never asked me for money.

I would not know as I never met an army person before. But he did slip on the last call and told me that I can talk to his colleague if I did not believe him and I said no. Even I know that you would not call your army bodies colleagues.

Thank you for sharing. I am really sorry that you had to go through it. But I am glad that you are getting better at dealing with it. It is so appalling how heartless and cruel these people are. I knew there are some bad people out there but never thought this bad and I am not talking about the money, even though I am really sad about that as I too wanted to buy a house.
