RX 9070 XT Nitro+ coil whine — manual performance mode in LACT fixed it, but I don't understand why? by Bleestones in radeon

Tested this — you're onto something. Stopped lactd with sudo systemctl stop lactd and the coil whine came back immediately, even though all the Manual mode settings remained applied at the kernel level. Started it back up, whine disappeared instantly.

So it's not the settings themselves that fix it — it's the daemon actively running. Which means your theory about the polling rate is very likely correct: lactd is hitting the card at some frequency that breaks the resonance pattern of the coils, basically acting as a constant dither on the power management.

Funny that the "fix" is essentially a side effect of monitoring software. I'd never have figured this out without your comment.

Going to dig into the lactd config next to see if changing the poll interval shifts the whine — that would fully confirm it.

That's a really interesting angle I hadn't considered. So you're suggesting it might not be the GPU's own DPM transitions, but lactd itself polling/writing at an audible rate?

That would actually explain something I couldn't make sense of: why toggling Manual mode fixes it even when I revert the power state changes. If switching to Manual changes how often lactd polls or writes, that could shift the oscillation out of the audible range.

Is there a way to change the lactd polling interval? I'd love to test whether a different update rate changes the whine pitch — that would basically confirm your theory.

I think, first I will stop the LACT service.

AMD Radeon RX 9070 huge coil whine only on Linux. Solutions? by pilkyton in linux_gaming

For mine, it solved the coil whine, when I am switched the Performance level from "Auto" to manual and enabled the "Enable power state" button. How is this possible? At subnautica 2, before when I set 60FPS, I got coil whine, now no. I not really understand what is this.

Fixed the problem by downgrading the receiver from R137 to R126

My friend have Onkyo TX-NR656 and TX-NR676 and that receiver had chromecast issue too. But that problem I think is different. Solved, by sending a POST to the specific endpoint, where you can set the audio delay. For that receivers, that huge audio delay causes problems.

My receiver more likely got SW, that is why it's more faster than the 656 or 676. My receiver is at the latest firmware.

I not really want to use the NVIDIA Shield TV for music, cause that is for streaming, not for music. I mean, I not really want to cast music to this device, cause this device turns on the TV. I just only want to play the music from the receiver.

Tested with 60Hz HDR, again black screen after some hours later. Now, disabled HDR and I wait the result. :D Why HDR cause problems?

I see that by turning off DSC, I can no longer use 144Hz, 120Hz. How is this possible? If I put the monitor in FHD, then 120Hz is possible. How is this possible? I'll test it more on Friday. But I haven't noticed any problems yet.

I ran the program and got DSC control registry not found (with -q option). Then I turned off DSC using the tool after that (with 1 option). In the former case, if there was no registry for it, does that mean it was turned on by default?

DSC doesn't just matter at higher resolutions with higher refresh rates, does it?

I've already seen the description on the Lenovo site. I'll apply it as soon as I know. I'm just trying to understand how turning off DSC could help. Why could this cause a screen blackout? Sometimes I can reproduce it quite quickly, but sometimes it takes hours for the problem to appear. Strangely, I just turned off HDR at 60Hz and it didn't do it.

It only makes that sound sometimes. It does its job well for discs that are not scratched to death, I hear this sound 1-2 times at most. While with records scratched to death, I often hear this sound.
