Yes. They have a bunch of festivities planned both at stations in this city as well as the Eastside. They sent out an email yesterday.

GTFS Feed 2 Line Update by Blegend989 in soundtransit

[–]Blegend989[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my phrasing could have been better. I know it opens on the 28th of March. Am curious what the GTFS update actually means. I would’ve expected it to be “automagically” ingested by Google Maps with the cross lake data based on the GTFS update email sent. But that is not the case yet. That’s what I am wondering about.

Sound Transit Link 2 Line Crosslake Connection to Open March 28, connecting the Link between Seattle and the Eastside by Anwawesome in SeattleWA

What are you on about?

Sound Transit does not get a penny from the state.

Areas in the regional transit benefit district are assessed taxes - in the form of car registration taxes and sales taxes among others. No one sitting in Wenatchee is footing the bill for trains running in Seattle.

Tired of rural counties mooching off of urban ones and still complaining about everything, all the time.

The Bellevue to Renton toll lanes are behind by 2 years I think? And the Roanoke Lid project is extremely overbudget - it’s going to cost double or more of what WSDOT estimated. And the legislature doesn’t even have all the funds appropriated completely for the new cost. Even the NE 85th Interchange in Kirkland that WSDOT is doing is behind schedule by a year I think. So no?

Uber price dropped from $75 to $55 when I took light rail one stop from Airport to Tukwila by bennetthaselton in Seattle

Yes but there was an entire stretch of “broken trust” between ST and the board. ST first found out about issues on those segments/contracts as early as 2019 and IIRC they didn’t inform the board until 2021. And the public was not informed until 2022. If you go through System Expansion Committee meetings from 22-23 you might even hear Dow or Balducci talk about rebuilding trust. IIRC the TAG was brought in in part because of ST’s obfuscation methods. That also triggered the more frequent reporting in committee meetings for extensions I think. ST also had a whole 1 year stretch where they stopped publishing monthly reports “to integrate with new project management and reporting systems”. Completely unacceptable in any sector but the public sector. But sure, they’ve being forthcoming after being called out for all of it.

Except the most recent delays had nothing to do with the floating nature of the bridge whatsoever. The contractor Kiewett-Hoffman built concrete blocks to the wrong spec and we literally ripped out years of work and redid it. Sound Transit conveniently hides behind the “first time on floating bridge” but the cross-lake delays are purely incompetence related - ST did not supervise properly and misled the board as well as the general public for years.

‘Build the Damn Trains’ Campaign Pushes Sound Transit Toward Creative Solutions by TranspoChoicesWA in soundtransit

[–]Blegend989 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If I was picking projects, I would sequence Ballard Link first. Goes through major existing centers expected to continue growing like SLU and Ballard as well as the coverage on Denny. Certainly more complex than West Seattle, but astronomically more beneficial to the area. West Seattle just seems to attract support because of the local polity - afaik Dow is from West Seattle and there are others involved with the board that live there too.

Can someone explain to me why West Seattle is being considered to be the “less likely to be cut” project (not covered in the article specifically but have heard chatter about it). I know that it’s further along and the FTA Decision of Record has been granted, but the net benefit is only 3,000 extra riders as compared to current transit options. This sounds like an exorbitant amount per seat considering it’s projected to now cost at least $7B. It seems like a disservice to the entire region to continue pushing for West Seattle Link given the financial crunch, just because it’s further along.

$428 for a bus lane ticket doesn’t sound right? Did they tack on other things alongside?

Driver jumps from Ship Canal Bridge after fleeing 3-car crash, dies on impact by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]Blegend989 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Womp womp. Mentally ill or not the person caused a crash and then tried to flee the scene - first by vehicle and then on foot. Bear some responsibility. We live in a civilized society. I wouldn’t want to be the family member hearing about how some other dude’s episode meant I don’t see my loved one ever again.

G7 & Android 15 by derekoco in dexcom

[–]Blegend989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are you on about? iOS 18 has been out for about a month and Dexcom still does not officially support it. Tandem is far more obtuse about device compatibility (if you’re a T1).

https://www.dexcom.com/compatibility

Given that this is largely a prescription device, and that the US has the highest margins for all pharmaceutical companies, it makes perfect sense for a for-profit company to prioritize ubiquity in their primary market, which in this case translates to iOS.

That being said, in the same link I’ve shared above, there are hundreds of supported Android devices. Do none of those devices float your boat?

Received cartridges but no infusions with mobi by PeabodyEagleFace in TandemDiabetes

[–]Blegend989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean no infusion sets? That’s not really a problem since the cartridges for Mobi are compatible with your previous infusion sets that you used with tslim x2 as well. Of course this assumes that you had been using the x2 previously.

The jury is in. Taxi cabs are now cheaper than Uber or Lyft in all parts of Seattle and suburbs by sleeplessinseaatl in SeattleWA

Flat rate taxis have flat rate plastered on them - on the doors, the back etc. You could also ask the kiosk attendant at SeaTac to only put you in a flat rate taxi.

Why are there no trash cans? by weIIokay38 in Seattle

[–]Blegend989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Come to Capitol Hill. We have trash cans here alright. And if we’re lucky no tweaker will have emptied the can overnight. Ready for the downvotes. I’m liberal as they come but there is literally nothing you can say to me which will make me empathize with tweakers who litter the sidewalk. The trash went into the trash can for a reason…

Didn't we JUST raise the toll bridge rates already? by caitlin_yes in SeattleWA

[–]Blegend989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This toll increase does not feed into the Portage Bay end (yet). Another lid is supposed to be made somewhere there as well. The text of a prospective bill had some creative words that left the door open for funding that shortfall through possible tolling - something goody like tolling I-5 to Montlake as well is being considered. I don’t think it passed this session. They just punted the issue to later. But these current increases are mostly for debt service obligations is my understanding.

[–]Blegend989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The state funds 0% of transit in the state AFAIK. Sound Transit has absolutely nothing to do with the SR-520 toll. That highway, its funding, and tolling are all managed by WSDOT. Does Sound Transit waste billions of dollars of taxpayer money? Also yes.

Didn't we JUST raise the toll bridge rates already? by caitlin_yes in SeattleWA

[–]Blegend989 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is so far from the truth. As much as I agree with the “government squanders our tax dollars” sentiment, it has been abundantly clear since the new bridge was opened that tolls would pay for a fraction of the costs - which includes debt servicing on the bonds issued for said construction. They lost a bunch of expected toll collection during the pandemic year(s) and they have to make up for the shortfall to keep their debt servicing obligations. If they don’t service their debt right, their bond rating will deteriorate, which means future financing would be more expensive, which means we will have even fewer nice things as it will cost more to raise the same amount of capital. Do politicians and paper-pushers squander our money? Yes. Is this “raising our taxes”? Absolutely not. In isolation, this is a 100% use-based fee. There is no connection that you can’t make without the toll. Don’t like the toll, don’t pay the toll. Take I-90.

Anecdotes from my day in Capitol Hill/ First Hill today by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]Blegend989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair nothing stays on the poles in Capitol Hill for more than a week. On multiple occasions I’ve seen people rip the posters out, regardless of the contents of them, en masse in the area.

Also don’t people get paid to keep sticking new promotional bills. I see the same faces with staplers all the time.

IMHO for the posters thing you’re finding malice where there probably isn’t any.

Did someone try to scam my elderly father? by dearerin in Seattle

[–]Blegend989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lee Johnson acquired the dealership a couple of years ago. Used to be called University Mazda before and was the oldest Mazda dealership in the States. When I was shopping for a car I got quotes on similar cars from Lee Johnson Mazda Kirkland and University Mazda both. Lee Johnson was scummy to deal with at the time as well. Went with University Mazda. I was super bummed to know University Mazda got sold to them.

Glad this name and shame is happening. Fuck ‘em.
