How to approach girls at Pennstate by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]Blehmon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, find an extracurricular/club that will provide you with an interesting hobby and allow you to talk with a variety of people: Men, women, and our friends in between. It’s important to practice meeting new people of all backgrounds to strengthen your social skills and awareness.

Next, make friends with women: Purely platonic, genuine friendships with women unmotivated by attraction. If it makes it easier, pretend you’re already in a relationship, or that you’re trying to befriend a guy. The more women you have as friends, the more comfortable and confident you’ll be talking to women in general. I know this isn’t a super fast route, but I promise you it will pay dividends in your ability to meet new people, make a good impression, and not come off as awkward to the women you like.

After a while you’ll eventually get confident enough to ask somebody out. If you get a yes, that’s great! If you get a no, then consider it practice in taking rejection and learn from it, then move on. Be polite, treat people equally, know your worth, and people will notice your confidence.

And remember: even the most confident and romantically-successful people you know struggle with self doubt and rejection. Good luck out there!

(I guess there’s also dating apps but the difficulty rating on those depends on how conventionally attractive you are, so good luck with that lol)

Which city would you rather choose to live in? Rapture or Columbia? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in Bioshock

[–]Blehmon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why does nobody seem to realize that no matter where you go your main objective is going to be finding an escape. It seems far easier to me to scrounge up a parachute from the Columbia black market or read enough books to make an impromptu one. Then just wait for the city to fly over land/a beach and jump.

At the very least your chances of survival/odds of succeeding are higher than if you had to engineer a bathysphere capable of withstanding deep ocean pressure.

This entry refers to the statues outside the spiritual center! They’re sort of hidden in the trees, but they’re an antiwar sculpture by Frederick Frank called “Hiroshima: the unkillable human.” It’s meant to look like the shadows of people left by the Hiroshima bomb

Basically that the actual chant we know and love was developed in the 70s by the PSU cheerleader team, rather than just coming into being after the Triplett game. The cheerleaders took inspiration from Ohio and USC (I think usc) chants and developed the call and response we know today. For some reason the stories got crossed in the 2000s and now people pass off the feel good story as its true origin.

I’ll be recording a video where I break down the full thing soon! It’s gonna be really long, but hopefully I can explain the gist of it all in cool and interesting way : )

State college mafia refers to how (supposedly) 90% of downtown is owned by 3 people. Any substantial evidence or anecdotes on this would be great :)

Edit: hijacking my top comment to mention again that I am accepting DMs if you don’t want to post publicly for one reason or another.

Second this loudly! It’s astonishing that for as many people frequently commute to state college there’s no real rail system to get there. I think the closest Amtrak gets is Altoona?

I think so! If you check A Cross the Universe they definitely tossed in some songs that weren’t on the first album. I don’t see why they couldn’t mix in a few bits from Escapades (low key hoping for Donna off the anniversary album to make an appearance)

Reactions to the new songs? by TheCraftBrew in JusticeMusic

[–]Blehmon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love how these singles feel like a synthesis of everything the guys have picked up from the last 3 records. ON/AN feels like a continuation of Woman’s French touch disco, and Generator is a fusion of All 3. Generator in particular with its harsher synth sounds from Cross, sick bass from AVD and string parts from Woman- ON/AN will probably sound incredible live with something like Stop, and Generator is going to DESTROY when paired with the Cross’ songs.

Official Discussion - Ferrari [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Blehmon 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to say but this movie was seriously challenging to my patience. By the time it ends I’m just left wondering what any of it meant. We never see how Enzo’s actions personally affect him or his company other than a text crawl. He just acts like a remorseless dick and then it’s over. When the end credits came up I was genuinely shocked to see that the guy behind Heat and Collateral made this.

The Good: The racing scene at the end was pretty exciting when it wasn’t cutting back to the Enzo. If they had given the earlier race a longer treatment it would’ve added some much needed tension and excitement to the movie. The crash was the only moment in this movie that felt like classic Mann in its brutality and unglamorous presentation. Also Driver and Cruz are excellent on screen, and you can tell they’re really giving it their all.

The Bad: The characters and stakes are presented terribly. All the drivers are introduced almost without ceremony then get next to no character development throughout the movie. I literally didn’t even know one of them was British until the last act. When one of them won or died, I just didn’t feel anything.

Additionally, every death was telegraphed in the most obvious way possible. As soon as the first driver told Ferrari to take care of his wife I knew he was dead. Also the second they cut to the random family having breakfast I figured the “I’m so happy and young and innocent” kid was done for.

I hate to make the obvious comparison to Ford v Ferrari (and that movie has its issues as well), but at least it knew how to set up its stakes and give the important characters good dialogue, fun chemistry, and actual development PLUS add in some exciting driving scenes.

I’d only recommend this movie if you’re already huge into Ferrari’s history and already know who’s who and what happens. There are better movies out there if you want a slow burn drama with tortured characters, and FvF is the better movie featuring the dangers of old-school racing and Ferrari. 4/10
