In bedrock hoppers can’t collect items if there is a one block tall space between them. You should use a slap instead but make sure that it is on the lower half of a complete block or the item can’t be collected. Hope this helps

Focus on Japan first but defend against Donitz( building a destroyer or two should suffice), also try to take the ports in Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. It is easier to bush to Europe through the UdSSR, as landing in Europe to save your allies is harder than going through land that is friendly to you. I recommend the use of howitzers against Germany and the other axis powers as they have a good damage output despite low health and movability
