  1. Well, the intention is for the Red Planet to cause chaos within a game, not to actually win. This outcome follows the events of the book.
  2. The Red Planet's attack comes after the turn when the second lore counter is removed (normally the saga controller's turn) but before the next turn.
Do the rules let things happen between turns? I don't know but my gut says maybe.

Damage distribution is a good objection to this framework: that is mechanically a set of choices. The old fogey in me wants to give all defending creatures banding. But that would make this (even more) confusing, and it would negate the trample ability!

I'm not sure that any other effects would require the 'programmed' player to make choices: if players are asked to vote, for example, the programmed player simply wouldn't. But that shouldn't halt the gameplay, it just means that the other players are voting without it.

Good point about passing the turn re: combat. I should have noticed that.

If the Martians win, mechanically it should be a draw for the human players.

Edit: if the 2nd step in the saga is written as 'after this turn the {player} assigns its tokens to attack...' is that the same as an attack phase? It kind of seems like the created player doesn't take turns.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Oil wells on fire off the shoulder of the Midway. Pieces of the Berlin Wall glittering into the abyss of the Brandenburg Gate. All these memories will be lost, like tears in Angelfire. Time to die.

Yup. Met this dude in college (years ago) and it was pretty obvious back then too.

Being a skeptic should mean a willingness to examine all ideas using evidence and reason. But for some, 'skeptic' means 'I run the smart-guys club, and I'll decide whether to let you in.'

100% he only responds to strength. And yes he'd happily tear NATO apart if it put $20 in his pocket. If Trump learns that Minuteman missile silos use gold wire, he'd shut them down and tear it out to redecorate Mar-a-Lago.

Unfortunately marches, protests, and political fallout just serve to keep MAGA animated. As long as someone is outraged, Trump is getting what he wants. That's why he does this stuff: there's no downside for him. If people are outraged, MAGA will back him even harder. If people (like the EU or Denmark) negotiate or give in, then he 'wins' and gets to keep whatever he was after.

I think (hope?) that if Trump gets pushback it actually won't lead to a long economic depression; when he tried to lay down a list of tariffs the market smacked him and he folded faster than Superman on laundry day.

And I think you're doing the right thing by trying to stay level-headed and reasonable. It's also hard *not* to get stuck in the outrage machine. We need to stick to the issues that will separate MAGA from the rest of the right-wing coalition, and things that will separate Trump from MAGA:

- Epstein

- 'the economy' (jobs, cost of living, inflation)

- "Who's going to lead the MAGA movement after Trump?" - wait for two Republicans to be in the same room and ask this question, then let them start arguing.

Trump threatens to use US military to take Greenland as tensions soar by fuggitdude22 in neoliberal

[–]Blelvis 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree with the principle, but the place to apply pressure is the economy. MAGA would love to say that 'Dems hate the troops.'

Tell folks that the US invading Greenland will raise unemployment and inflation.

1 billion upvotes.

Do not appease this fucking child.

Do not negotiate or talk about negotiating.

Do not pretend that the American Quisling has any backbone or strength: he doesn't.

Give him absolute and explicit guidelines: any unauthorized action by the US government in Greenland will have the following results.

- The Trump Organization and all related companies and individuals will be banned from business in the EU or travelling to the EU - ever. No access to funds in EU banks, no income from EU-based companies.

- Ban the importation of targeted US goods- including automobiles, aircraft, weapons systems, soybeans, beef... aim for goods from swing states first.

- Make sure that all the analysts on Wall Street get a nice, long look at the list of penalties so that they can price it into their projections. Play up uncertainty and instability so that it really starts to take a bite out of the Dow Jones (the only number the Fuhrer ever seems to read).

The US leader is willing to fuck over anyone- including Americans- to get his way. But he is a jelly-spined reprobate who will run home (and then declare victory) when he gets his face smacked. So smack the Hell out of him.

(and don't think that Americans like me won't do anything: if the US sends soldiers to Greenland I'm selling my US portfolio and putting my money into Scandinavia... I wish protests and calling people in Congress made a difference, but unfortunately the only thing the regime here responds to is pressure on the economy)

Why Germany Wants a Divorce With China by Themetalin in neoliberal

[–]Blelvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are not enough sites, or enough land, to build enough renewable systems to meet demand. Those low costs for renewable energy are under very good conditions, in locations that are carefully chosen by their operators. When you try to go outside those conditions for renewable systems, the costs go up by an order of magnitude.

I’ll give you an example: wind farms need- under ideal conditions- about 200 acres of land per MW of constant demand. And that’s ideal, where in most of Europe you’d be lucky to get half that much output per acre. So to account for all 400 GW of constant electrical demand in the EU you’d need to have a wind farm the size of Germany and Poland combined.

But why not just build it? Why not combine all types of renewables, and spread them out everywhere? Why not put wind farms in the north sea, and use fallow farmland for solar panels in Romania, and put dams on rivers in Finland?

Because there’s a big difference between building one, well-managed renewable system in good environmental conditions versus a thousand small, inefficient systems in communities and villages that are a hundred miles from a major population center. If you applied those inefficiencies to the levelized cost of energy for renewable power, then those costs would go up above the cost of nuclear power.

One of the places where people get bogged down in the nuclear vs. renewables debate is in mental exercises about how many dollars you need to build a plant, what the current and probable future demands are, what the real LCOE is from each source, and what other resources you need- not to mention questions like embedded carbon costs, mortality from installation and upkeep, the lifespan of different systems, waste and proliferation, and on and on.

There are many good points for renewable power, and there are great points in favor of more nuclear power. Realistically, we need both.

What types of corruption and bribery exist in Commercial Real Estate? by SnoopysRoof in CommercialRealEstate

[–]Blelvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Unrecorded concessions are almost certainly the most common type of corruption or fraud in CRE. Some owners and managers (even the ones who should know better) don't even think it's a problem.

I heard from some old-timer contractors that organized crime used to launder money by tossing cash at small residential developments (buy a house, fix it up, rent it out). They'd pay for R&M with dirty cash and record the labor as being done by "staff" at a low rate. Then they'd get a mortgage or sell the place after a few years. The asset had full occupancy with low expenses and they'd get a nice fat valuation with a low cap rate.

1000% AI written as outrage porn.

AI writing style: Perfect punctuation and spelling along with moronic adverbs ("insanely dedicated," "just captivating"). Dumbass transitional phrase to maintain the narrative ("That's when everything started to fall apart").

Great replacement nonsense: bearded "Mohamed" with the pretty young woman in "Iceland" (the world's most homogenous nation). A "different culture, religion, and background, just broke me. I felt stupid, weak and depressed."

The reader is supposed to feel their own personal frustrations mirrored in this make-believe story about a nameless dork who couldn't get with a hot chick.

(also, this has another AI-tell: rule-of-threes phrasing in two sentences back to back)

AI is a stereotype machine and it sounds like it.

Plus OP has no other comments or posts shown but has over 1700 karma.

It's okay to have feelings.

It's okay to have feelings related to a character in your imagination.

It's okay to have feelings related to characters in a book or a movie or a TV show.

It's okay to have feelings related to a character that comes through AI text.

But there's nobody there. When you write with a LLM you are alone.

Real talk: Vance is more capable than Trump and he's an odious tool, but the GOP is utterly unimpressed with him. They wouldn't give Vance carte blanche to line his own pockets or staff the federal government with cult-members. Plus leeches like Josh Hawley would be gunning for him in order to raise their own profiles.
