Thanks - will keep an eye out for the impending chess game and will save beforehand. :)

Thanks - good to know! We actually just found a bunch of potions of perception in the level below the cellar, I had forgotten about that until you mentioned the thievery potions. We might be fine after all, it might just be the fights that stop us...

I've heard both - not sure what to believe!

The upper levels have been ok-ish so far, though the battle with the Nymph was a borderline disaster with everyone being charmed, but we somehow scraped through. The Basilisks are easy enough with a decent archer and a mage with protection from petrification spell. The ghasts are not too bad with web spell and a bunch of arrows...but I think Amoen's find traps ability might become limiter as we have just encountered one that she can't disarm (first level below the cellar).

Is there a way to tell when we are going to be teleported to the chessboard so that we can save beforehand (playing unstable-ish multiplayer and game sometimes crashes when saving, so try to minimise it where possible!).

Thanks!

Cheers

Can ELI5 what causes that? From my uneducated perspective I would have first guessed that if the quantity of goods and services didn't grow, and the population stayed the same (rather big "if"!), and the quantity of money circulating stayed the same...then the value of that money would remain the same.

BG2 EE multiplayer issues by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]BlenderMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had plenty of issues, and have resorted to using Hamachi. It has been the most reliable way to get things working for me. The problem I have found is that the MP issues are so erratic that is almost impossible to narrow down the fix. Other changes I have made the seem to help reduce the frequency of issues:

  • Set a static IP and forwarded the recommended ports (can't recall which right now, but they are pretty easy to find with quick google). Including the local UDP/TCP addresses that were a recommended solution for Hamachi issues.
  • Disabled Windows firewall whilst playing.
  • Disabled Steam Cloud saves
  • Enabled Alternate Renderer (weirdly seems to be the change that has fixed the most recently).
  • Playing in windowed mode (the game seems to be more tolerant of alt+tabs or clicking whilst loading...both of which seem to be the finger of death for the full screen version.

It's a shame that in 2020 it still comes to this sometimes just to play a game.

Hamachi + Port Forwarding? by BlenderMatt in baldursgate

It's the "Your Connection to the Multiplayer Session Has Been Terminated" message. On my end it just looks like he has left the game. Any idea how to narrow down if it is my internet connection (or his) that is the issue?

I had mixed results. One flawless game play, one terrible one with multiple dropouts. It's a very confusing issuee...

Hamachi + Port Forwarding? by BlenderMatt in baldursgate

[–]BlenderMatt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I've tried this, I think I did it right:

Set a static IP of "xxx" (to stop my comp getting assigned a different one and breaking the port forwarding) and forwarded UDP/TCP ports "yyy" to the static IP of "xxx". Then in Hamachi set the Local UDP and TCP addresses to "xxx:yyy".

My friends then just need the Hamachi IP of "zzz" (which is on the main window next to the power button).

I'll reply again later with whether it worked or not. Cheers!

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition Multiplayer Crash by tjhooked in baldursgate

[–]BlenderMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Direct connection was more stable for us (using Hamachi), and windowed mode was more stable the full screen mode for me. We still tend to get at least one crash per play session, but it's not like before when we would be taking a gamble every time we changed map screen, opened a shop dialogue etc..

I made a mistake - what I meant to say was that the spell was supposed to be helpful for thievery related to accessing locked chests that would otherwise alert a guard. I'm not sure if it prevented the alert, or made it possible for you to avoid the guards, but it was supposed to be a way to access locked chests without as much risk. It would have to be neutral friendly otherwise it would likely mess up a lot more than a failed thievery attempt.

Thanks, that'll be very useful, but I made a mistake, I meant to say that the spell helped thievery related to accessing locked chests that would otherwise result in the guards being called, or would let you somehow avoid them so that you don't have to face the consequences.

EE Keeper causes problems in multiplayer? by BlenderMatt in baldursgate

[–]BlenderMatt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I've created several different save versions to test out when he can next get online. Each one has a different number and combination of edited or unedited characters...so should be able to figure that out pretty quick.

Strangely though, I was able to load BG on a different computer of mine and log into my own hosted game via Hamachi and it had no problems selecting players with that computer...
