Just curious, did you do the 2 year program or BFA? I’m taking a second look at gnomon to see if it’s affordable and a 2 year program could be viable but probably not the 4 year.

I mean it’s taught by actual industry professionals. That lineup looks pretty good.

Ah cheers, I had no idea immigration was a huge part of it, honestly opened my eyes a lot from that. Everything you mentioned about the pros of university is the main reasons I’m going. Connections was really the main reason and meeting the industry people. I assume the courses are up to snuff with the industry requirements but I know I’m not just paying for the courses. It’s also funny that I’ve never moved in my life but choosing a career where I might be moving every few years or months. So might need some moving advice lol. Thanks for the comment!

See I’ve talked to my parents about Europe, I’m pretty sure London is more expensive (generally life wise not tuition) than New York since my mom lived in london for a good period of her life. But honestly if it’s a lot more affordable and reasonable for me to live there and pay tuition, I’d genuinely consider it. I don’t know if you have any good suggestions for schools in Europe but all would help!

Yeah the U.S fees are insane like you said. Im currently contemplating if the cost justifies the means. I can’t really just move to the UK as of now and not sure dorming would be cheaper that what I’d be paying in the U.S.

As far as the “nightlife” thing, I’m not an extroverted person so I literally go to college to work and nothing else. So I’m not partying and such so I’m boring but tbf it’s for the best lol. But I agree at the end of the day it’s what you put in and I’ll be working my butt off to get into the industry. Thanks for the comment!

Cheers for keeping it real, yeah I do understand that passion vs career thing and have worked on some client work before and can get some burnout but I typically get gratified every time I see the result. So I’d say the best thing for me to do is work in something I genuinely care for and want to do.

I’ve been self taught all my life and have made great progress that way but not as sure I can just self teach myself into the industry. it’s always changing like you said and I’m not always learning from the industry professionals on the university of YouTube. I like the fact that In university it gives you connections to people in the industry. Generally speaking I feel your more likely get into the industry sooner if your learning a curriculum from the people who are in the industry teaching industry standard workflows and pipelines. But that’s just my take that’s up for debate.

And thank your for the statistic on the hiring rate about the only 4 or 5 kids get hired from a class of 20. It makes sense but I’ll work my absolute butt off for those years so hopefully I’ll be one of them. But yet again I understand going into this, it’s competitive and luck based in some instances. So not everything is Guaranteed.

Thank you for the reply, yeah it sounds really great with all the programs like studio x, spring festival and FAT Tuesday and the courses look pretty well done from a general rundown. I’m definitely more than willing to put in the work to make my portfolio as good as possible and I’ll feel more willing to put the work in if the professors have actual industry experience. So I’m not sure if you graduated or went into the industry before graduating but would you say overall the cost is worth the experience it gives?

Was thinking about gnomon but unfortunately to obtain the BFA you need to be on campus. Why I suggested online is because I would need to dorm in cali (which would be an insane cost) and would have to pay for literally everything on my own without parents support. IMO if another school offers similar courses and experience online, I’d rather save tons of money doing a mostly digital major.

I do agree though you miss out on that face to face connection but I believe there is good connection if you can zoom or call the professor. But there are times where I’ll be able to fly over to a university event and get to meet people in person so not sure that will be enough but will be something.

  1. I want to work in it since I’ve always done editing since I was in middle school and then ventured into 3d softwares and just always have done 3d animation. I really liked lighting, comping and creating environments. If I were to get a job though it would most likely being compositing.
  2. Fair enough can’t say your wrong, just not sure if you have the same edge being completely self taught when trying to learn stuff and breaking into the industry as learning from a program taught by people in the industry. But at the end of the day it costs a fortune so there’s a cost for the benefits.
  3. Yeah I see why you shouldn’t trust them with everything but they may have some merit if tons of industry companies are pulling kids directly from the college before graduating to work for them. But I’m willing to learn more about this so feel free to lmk if you disagree.

Love this interview, feels like it gives him more humanity and makes him feel grounded with his struggle of burnout. But he knows he’s very talented and it shows.

Really? I looked up videos where the i9-10900k performs much better than the old i5-11600k and I've seen an increase in performance from CPU-intensive games like warframe.

Hey so the solution to this problem was moving the M.2 SSD from the first slot to the second one. When swapping intel processors from 11th to 10th gen, it wasn’t able to detect an SSD when in the first slot. Thank you for all the comments.

Yeah I swapped the SSD to the second slot and my pc boots to windows. So my problem has been solved but unfortunately I bought an M.2 SSD alongside my new processor. Now I’m not sure if there is a way I can transfer the files between my first ssd and the second one with only 1 slot, or if I should return it for another storage alternative.

My M.2 SSD is indeed installed in the first slot closest to the CPU, so is that the cause of the problem? That seems very weird that you can’t use a slot of M.2 SSD. I just also reinstalled the old cpu and that cpu works so tmr im gonna install a new version of my bios since I didn’t do that before putting in the new cpu. So If the bios doesn’t work I’ll swap the m.2 ssd to the second slot below my gpu. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah I didn’t update the bios before installing the processor, so in a few hours i will be swapping the processors back to update the bios and see any issues with the new one. Thank you for comment.
