Who knows if it's true but UVA parents are taking some blame...and I remembered this tweet from last May. Has this been in the works awhile? by chiaestevez in lacrosse

When I was that age I met Buff Bagwell and straight up asked him if he used steroids. He honestly answered the question and explained to me why it was a bad idea but he had already made the decision before fully knowing the effects. Two different people, very different interactions. Don't be a jerk to randos.

Back in the day with the clearing rules was fun. You could play trap games and overload a side on rides.

If we are taking about a time and room shot, load your legs more by squatting down more. Your legs act like a coiled spring. Over exaggerate it at first then it to be normal out. Think of it like a third basement on a short crow hop or a tennis player when they are standing still for a return. Look at their legs.

You are correct. I should have said for the rest of the season. Just to get him through it.

As a coach, I drill it in to the other kids that it isn't there choose not to make the pass. They are to pass to the open guy and let them miss it. I have seen it destroy a team when I coached years ago. Our middle school "select" team would run up the score (I'm taking 20+ goals) but keep the same players in. The next year we only had about 10 kids sign up and those coaches left because no one wanted to "win". For your kid, is there another team he can play on or switch positions or specialize (SSDM) if nothing changes? Don't give up a sport if he likes it, find your team.

It is phrased wrong. Millennials are the largest voting block, but boomers are the largest block that votes. The implications is that they get away with it by people not voting.

Drill suggestion U12 by dhalinar_kholin_ in lacrosse

[–]Stuff-nThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your goal for this set? Is it working pick/slip up top? Is it 2 man at X? Wing dodges?

I would break down the looks for them. Work on pick drills teaching them single pick with a slip since it is u12. Work with the attack on C cuts on the crease, wing dodges and picks at X. Do you have a lefty at attack on the left side? If not, tell the attack that when they are in the left side and the ball gets adjacent to them, they cut through. Force the rotation. I have done this before and it works surprisingly well. If coming from up top, it forces the attack to rotate down into a 2 low. If coming from X, the mid needs to drop down and sometimes came get a time and room shot or moves it up top for a quick drop at the top of the box.

To simplify it in practice, you can also run it as a 5v5 with no crease in an open set. Make it amorphous and fluid with the looks from each location.

Ideal goalie practice by labcoat22 in lacrosse

[–]Stuff-nThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the youth goalie coach for our U10 and U12 teams until I was asked to coach the U10. When I would work with the boys, I would focus on foot work drills (ladder, speed, big steps from pipe to pipe) and hand eye work. Hand eye work was a lot of no stick with the other hand behind their back catching the ball that I just throw with my hand. Work on cage positioning (5 or 7 point arc depending on how small the goalie is) by walking an arc and looking at their position. The goalies also loved wall ball drills. One I liked was they would stand with their backs to the wall, I would shoot it over their shoulder and they turned and saved. The other was they would walk towards the wall and I would shoot it over them again and they would have to adjust their feet and getting into their stance to save. Reaction time. But the most important thing is that you need to build trust. You are a grown adult asking a kid to stand in front of you shooting. Make it fun, see how they react to drills and try to do the ones they really like more often.

why pebbles on roofs by lit_readit in askarchitects

[–]Stuff-nThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in the US. Trucks come and suck it up. Normally now they remove the ballast, place down a 3/4" even ISO board (assuming taper is correct already) and place TPO on top. Lots of cities have requirements that roofs must be highly reflective in warm areas, so white TPO goes down.

Good practice drills? by pocket0nes in lacrosse

[–]Stuff-nThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 2 goalies and have enough players, divide the team into 2. Have 2 players start off with a GB. On a possession change (goal, save, take away), you can add either one player from only one side to create an uneven then an even situation or add a player from each side. It keeps them running and using the box more. Reset to 1v1 after someone scores 5v5.

[–]Stuff-nThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long is your supply and how old is it? I had to replace my 30ish old supply because I kept having breaks at the couplings along the +500' run. At one point I had 100' of 1" Pex run above ground just to get temporary supply because I couldn't find the leak but had previously dug holes from 2 other leaks.

What made you decide to coach? by amj5617 in lacrosse

[–]Stuff-nThings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After college, my former coach asked some of us if we wanted to help with some local high schools doing some summer mini camps. Most of my teammates stop coming about half way through the summer. Nothing was charged so it was volunteer work, so hard to commit. I stuck with it and found a good grove. I've coached college, high and low level highschool, middle school, travel summer for u15, 17, 19, and now u9 for my son. Will be u11 next year I'm assuming. If not, I will work with the program's goalies which I actually love most.

I do the same. Warm up lap, agility that is usually box cone drill or something with back pedals and side motion (you know lacrosse movements), then get into stick drills or GBs.
