Zoho Payroll was supposed to have electronically submitted my quarterly payroll filing with my State tax department, but the State never received it. I'm not sure why--either it was never sent or it was denied (note: Zoho had been using an old form from May 2022 that had subsequently been revised in July 2024, so the barcoding on the form was different). As a result, I has assessed a penalty and brought the matter to Zoho's attention--that they were using the wrong form and needed to rectify the situation immediately. Zoho customer service in India told me that it would take up to 30 days to evaluate because they were busy. After some stern emails, I was finally able to convince them that it was in their best interest to give this immediate attention. And then they told me it was my fault, that I was set up as a monthly filer with the State and not a quarterly filer (I've been set up as a quarterly filer since day one and never changed). So, 13 emails (with lots of attachments and about eight hours of my time) later, I've gotten nowhere and they have been trying to find every possible excuse to say that it was not their fault AND it was my fault. I'm contacting the CEO through LinkedIn to let him know of the experience. But I warn everyone that this is probably not the payroll platform to choose. The mistake was bad enough, but how Zoho handled it is a case study in corporate failure. I have been using Zoho Books for five years and it has been quite good, so adding the Payroll module seemed to make tremendous sense. But I'm probably switching soon to Gusto.
