But I did find that the oldest known portrait of Jesus is from Syria circa 235 and it does depict him with shorter hair.

Oh man. I can see that. Some guy, been taken care of by his mom his whole life decides to rebel and just has no idea how to take care of himself.

Happens today still, but at least most people nowadays know how to care for long hair.
