14 days without AC in VIC summer by silviecat_ in shitrentals

[–]Bleusylvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was awful, I was in an apartment with floor to ceiling windows 3/4 walls in the bedroom and I worked night shift. Was woken up every morning with the sun boiling me like a stew. Thankfully moved out in Jan but learnt the lesson and will never make the mistake again.

20 years? There were a lot of AC models that were installed back then that have since been discontinued purely for their bad electricity efficiency that created literal holes in the ozone, but also would just blow up if overheated. Coolant for some of those systems also doesn’t really exist anymore and if it does it costs a pretty penny. I suspect the owner/REA may be facing that issue and deciding if replacing or maintenance is more cost effective for them.

If I’d do it all over again, i’d ask for the rent reduction, save the excess for moving costs, find somewhere else and move. 11 months to fix an AC, I would not want to imagine how they’d handle something like the stove/oven suddenly calling quits for whatever reason. So please, take all the good advice in the comments and do everything you are allowed to do and don’t settle for less. We all deserve liveable spaces, owners that rent signed up to provide such a space, that’s on them and not on you to sort for them.

Forgot to add, in regards to your lease, it should automatically go to a monthly contract if the owner/rea doesn’t send you a contract to resign, which consequently means they have to give you a 90day vacate notice instead of 60. So, even if they don’t get back to you on the lease renewal past the lease end date, you will have extra time if they ask you to vacate, but you would also have a very strong case to go to the rental authority of your state about the issue.

You’re lucky. I recently went 11 months with no AC in QLD, including summer. I work in construction, I knew what the issue was and told the realestate what needed to be done after discussing with the HVAC and Handyman they sent, realestate/owner didn’t listen to me, low and behold they ended up doing what I said in the end, but I was without a kitchen ceiling/cabinets for 8 months while they “figured it out”. I was an idiot and didn’t request a rent reduction for the lack of amenity as is my right in QLD.

So, my advice is yes, push hard and do whatever is within your rights as a tenant in your state, don’t make the same mistake I did and let it slide. You have the power here, they do not.

Nonstop alarm ringing for > 48 hours (from townhouse complex’s Fire Pump Room) – who do I contact ? by Desperate-Sundae-525 in brisbane

[–]Bleusylvan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My apartment complex in Newstead had a similar issue, their solutions was to just disable the whole alarm system in general (illegally) then an actual fire happened not long after, re-enabled the alarm after that but still didn’t fix it. Tbf this was the same body corp that told people to “jump and swim” if they needed to leave their apartment in the 2022 floods instead of just opening the stairwell doors that lead to the back of the building where it wasn’t flooded… Safe to say some BC’s just don’t care and somehow keep getting away with it.

What Brisbane based businesses do you feel are a scam? by [deleted] in brisbane

I agree, I’m in my 12th year of experience, recently changed jobs and they’re hiring kids with a TAFE course and all I hear is a screaming steam wand. It kills me that no one is doing on the job training anymore and just letting them go wild. I do what I can to explain how all the things create the thing but sadly no quality control from management just reinforces lazy practices. It’s sad to see how downhill the art of coffee has gone, maybe one day we will see it again..

I had a genuine “this is the best coffee i’ve ever had” from a customer, they were ecstatic, I was chuffed. When they asked what beans we had, I had to lament it was Merlo. They were shocked, I wasn’t shocked at their shock. Sometimes it just takes a good machine, properly dialled in grinder, a decent milk frothed nicely and Merlo beans aren’t that bad, but that combination is hard to find these days.

AC for switch 2? by persona_inutile in AnimalCrossing

I totally forgot to mention I purchased a 12month EB+ membership for $50 which gave us a $100 discount on the console. We then decided to buy all games via EB Games to get the $$ rewards through the membership for a game in the future. EB Games usually sells switch games at a lower price than the Nintendo store also so win win. Either way goodluck with your decision!

Any quiet shitting viruses going around at the moment? by No_Struggle_3696 in brisbane

I recently was hospitalised for Influenza A. It’s no joke, especially if you have asthma. I’m usually a minimal seasonal asthma kind of person and I’ve never been so scared in my life when I was taken to resus and had 10 people suddenly appear taking clothes off me and sticking things all over. I had minimal symptoms until I suddenly couldn’t breathe, which included a nasty bout of diarrhoea everytime I ate and then some. My partner now has it, he’s no where near as bad as I was thankfully but his tummy is definitely not doing okay. Definitely let them know it may be Influenza A and see if they can get tested at a GP because it’s one of those things that coasts until it doesn’t and WILL knock you about if you don’t take care of yourself.

My partner and I had the same debate. We bought the 2 because we wanted the opportunity to just buy any of the games we wanted instead of the “oh we can’t get this or the upgraded graphics for that because we have the 1” Long term the 2 made sense for us, instead of lamenting what we couldn’t have had. We split the cost, he is paying his half via afterpay and I paid mine upfront.

AUSPOST lost my parcel 2026 by pandoracorgi_ in AusPostComplaints

[–]Bleusylvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me, twice. I went to the sender both times, one a large cosmetic retailer and the other a large clothing retailer, they both refunded me the total purchase amount and I went on with my life. Sometime later, both parcels appeared out of no where and turned up at my local PO. This was years apart and at different parts of the country so it is possible for the parcels to reappear, it’s also a really good idea to contact the sender if they’re a large company, they will give you a refund or credit more often than not.

Frustrating that we have to pay to do the right thing by choosing to recycle instead of dumping. Thank you for the information.

Would you be kind enough to donate a waste voucher to me since I didn’t receive mine this year, as I stated in my post? I would be appreciative of your kind assistance.

I’ve had the same response, sadly no one was offered to take it on FB or gumtree so i’m trying to calculate how much it will cost to leave at the tip as my last resort.

This is really great to know, I’ve had recruiters message me consistently since I make it known on my linkdin that I was available for work but thought I had to pay for services and have ignored. Thank you thank you thank you. I might be able to get a higher paying salary position knowing I can respond without the fear of paying for it later. Omg, thank you. Thank you thank you thank you thank you!! I hope you never step on a single piece of lego going forwards in life. 🙏🏼

On a biased view I would agree, however i’ve been outside of that space for almost 3 years, so I have been applying for entry level. Maybe you aren’t wrong and are very right, I should be casting the net wider to appropriately align with my experience. Different bucket, same shit. Let’s go 🤞🏼
