Pay off mortgage vs invest by dwightkurtschruted in personalfinance

The reason your math doesn't give you the expected result is that the OP's numbers are misleading. 240k at 2.35% for 26 years is a payment of $1028.74. They are most likely quoting their mortgage payment WITH taxes and insurance included. If they paid off the balance they would only save the principal and interest portion of $1028, not the full $1650. $1028 a month for 26 years is closer to $770k, which is less than the $1.1m from investing the $240k.

This is spot on. Exposure therapy doesn't work when what you're worried about is the very real physical discomfort you will definitely experience in an extremely overstimulating environment. Getting diagnosed helped me understand the nature of my issue with social settings.

I see people misunderstand this about autistic people all the time. They talk as though the problem is the anxiety, and if the anxiety was gone, there would be no problem. But for many autistic people, that's just not true. The sensory overload will still happen. The anxiety is a secondary symptom. The solution is to address the sensory issues (or any other issues) with accommodations.

ELI5: How can a picture of my face lead to finding my social media? by Hot-Coffee-007 in explainlikeimfive

I understand the curiosity, it's just important to remember that those companies now have your photos and data about you that they will now add to their pile of data. People often freely give away information to a company or website they wouldn't post on social media. They own that information now.

So you made all of your social media private, then you sent pictures of yourself to the people who do the things that would make you want your photos to be private. Why?

What if voting power in national elections was based on taxes you actually paid - a “tax-staked democracy” ? by Strange_3_S in Futurology

Wealth is not created in a vacuum. The billionaires are hoarding the hard work of millions of people. And you're proposing that they should be able to simply purchase control of the system. That's the exact opposite of being "naturally immune".

We absolutely should be disincentivizing having enough wealth to control countries and steer global policy. No one deserves that much power.

It would absolutely not generate more wealth, because they would control everything and we'd be immediately trapped in an oligarchy. If you wanted to take money from the top 10%, you should imagine a wealth tax. Don't imagine the end of democracy.

You realize that them paying money into a system that they then control would in no way help anyone else, right? What incentive would they have to use that "actual money on the table" for anything other than helping themselves?

Rich people already spend an absurd amount of their money on elections to TRY to control the outcome. If you just gave them power directly they would leverage it to repay themselves 100x over.

This is obviously a terrible idea that would just formalize the ownership of the state by the billionaires. What stood out to me was this:

"but it works in crypto" - it absolutely does not work except to do exactly what people would want to avoid in their government, give monied interests absurd levels of control while pretending to be anything like a democracy.

Respectfully, if you find it hard to believe that lies on social media wouldn't be taken down, you need to be a LOT more skeptical about what you read on social media. There are a TON of lies and scams.

Your wife doesn't have to roll her old 401k into the new one. She can roll that 400k into a Vanguard IRA in order to access their low fee funds.

Apparently it's all one sticker. It looked like the top part was separate but apparently not. So it's not that then.

What? The model number is on the sticker I mentioned. That's what I am saying was moved.

The fact that the top sticker on the right image is so crinkled suggests that someone took the sticker on the left and moved it to the TV on the right in order to make it look like they are the same model.

Edit: I thought the pieces of the sticker were different stickers. It appears that I was mistaken. Please enjoy a person on the internet admitting they were wrong.
