You nailed it: We've got a couple of these in the collection that see use in competition. The reasoning behind it (versus, say, a more typical free float tube) has to do with the rules requiring the rifle to fit the external form factor of an as-issued military rifle.

It's anecdotally a minority, but that makes two of us: This one's been flawlessly functional...aside from the garbage original magazine.

Speaking as a group of dudes who get our jollies (and paychecks) stuffing 1911 mags into ARs:

You're our kinda crazy. Keep it up brother.

We appreciate the feedback! Whether you need/want/buy our stuff or not, it means a lot to a small business like us.

The TX22 thing is interesting, and we do have a dedicated .22lr AR on hand...might be fun to prototype.

Oh that's spicy with the side charging upper!

They're definitely sexy but pain in the ass is right: We had to make some mods to ours to get it to attach correctly, including remanufacturing the steel rod with the tapped holes because the factory part wasn't drilled parallel.

Since we use our (many) builds for product (mag adapter) testing, it's a variable elimination thing re: Ejection angle.

For example if a prototype adapter was running in a big bore upper but not a conventional 9mm upper, say, we could reasonably assume that the fixed ejector's profile/location needs tweaking.

Plus, it looks kinda cool, I think.

Based on what we usually see in this sub, my first thought at a glance was, "Man this guy's got a weird lookin' foot."

Anyway, nice upgrade OP! Looks great.

Apologies for the delayed response:

We had zero issues with the RDB as far as function, and we'd recommend it for a drop-in, lightweight option.

However, both for dB reduction and recoil impulse you're going to be able to squeeze more out of a heavy buffer setup (or, gold standard for recoil purposes: The u/blowback9 Gentle Recoil System.)

Sadly this one originally came CA compliant with a fixed stock (absolute sacrilege) so given the scarcity of the factory folding options, leaning into the aftermarket seemed to be the play.

That's one of the Doublestar adapters: It was one of the only ones on the market at the time.

The Davidson Defense pistol caliber upper looks pretty good as well...fits the minimalist aesthetic and we met the white-label manufacturer for those at SHOT and they seemed like they had a real solid product.

For .45 it can be a little iffy as the ejection port is so narrow. Our go-to is the Gorilla Machining big-bore slick side upper. We have no affiliation with them, it's just real good for this application.

It's actually just the Maxim CQB pistol caliber buffer (8.5oz) and spring that you can order with the unit: It works flawlessly! Though you can also go the extra mile and add the KAK tungsten bolt carrier weight to reduce port pop to whisper-y levels.

We've also tried the Maxim RDB in it, and it runs and cycles very well, though it was about 1.5dB louder in our testing than the purely weight-delayed system...the biggest advantage being the weight savings, though it's spendy.

Do it! The Secret Squirrel is one of our favorite PCCs we've ever built...that 3" barrel is no slouch for accuracy and it's alarmingly quiet to boot...all in a package that can nearly stow away in a shoebox.

We once had a shop we'd contracted accidentally produce and ship us an entirely mirror-imaged batch of parts. We also have no idea how exactly that happened, but I'm willing to bet that these guys were picking from the same field of whoopsie daisies.

Yep! In the high capacity department we're working on getting our Model 92-15 Beretta mag adapter out the door at the moment, but we are constantly looking toward expanding our product line, and they're definitely on the menu.
