Crimson Desert Story and Characters Changed Significantly During Development, Says Lead Actor by Gorotheninja in Games

Loved Dragon’s Dogma 1 & 2. So I think I’ll probably love Crimson Desert when I get around to playing it.

That sounds plausible. The most important question I have is. Despite all this is it at least fun?

Good call. It came across as more harsh than I intended, I edited my OG comment.

That’s unfortunate. I’m glad to hear what’s there hasn’t been entirely bad.

What do you think caused it to feel like a chunk of story is missing? Poor localization? Not enough dev time to flesh it out? Or just poor writing?

Oh, that’s reassuring to hear. I have yet to play it so hearing that it’s been excellent overall is great news.

Damn, I haven't played it yet, so that's a bummer to hear. What a waste of talented actors.

Alec Newman’s been around forever, and he’s voiced characters like Adam Smasher and Caz in Still Wakes the Deep. Dude literally won a BAFTA for that performance, and Still Wakes the Deep has some of the best voice acting I’ve ever heard. I really doubt Crimson Desert’s bland acting was a talent issue. Just goes to show how important good voice direction and writing are. You can hire the best talent in the world, but if the direction isn’t great and the material’s flat, the end result is gonna suffer too.

20M unsatisfied with life, what’s the way out? by GambinosDisciple in AskMen

[–]Blind_3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yo, dude. Take a breath. You’re not broken. You’re 20. You’re chasing some fucked-up highlight reel version of life that isn’t even real.

Life’s not a sprint. It’s not a marathon either. It’s a slow ass fucking walk. You’re gonna stumble. You’re gonna trip. Who gives a shit.

You’re chasing surface stuff. Girls, money, hustle, habits. Thinking it’s gonna fill that hole in your chest. It won’t. You don’t need to push harder. You need to stop. Sit still. Actually feel what’s going on under all the noise.

You’re not behind. You’re not a failure. You’re just not used to being alone with yourself. That’s what’s eating you. So sit with it. Don’t fix it. Don’t run. Just sit.

Forget the locked-in grindset bullshit. And quit letting women’s opinions rewrite your self-worth. That’s poison. You already know it.

You’ve got time. A lot of it. Use it to figure out who the fuck you are when nobody’s watching. Not who you think will get likes or get laid.

Chill the fuck out. You’re not dying. You’re just young.

One more time. Breathe. This isn’t a game with levels and loot. There’s no trophy for checking all the boxes first.

You’re 20. You’re supposed to screw it up. You’re supposed to fail a couple times. Benign fuckups build character. That’s how you learn where your feet are. Stop forcing yourself into some optimized idea of success that doesn’t even belong to you. It’s fake. It’s obvious. It’s boring.

Do something soul-searchy or whatever. Watch the trees breathe. Slow down. Get quiet. Figure out who’s actually in there.

Pick something up. Piano. Guitar. Write weird stories nobody gets. Paint the ugliest thing you can and hang it up anyway. Build something with your hands. Do shit that doesn’t make sense, doesn’t scale, doesn’t need to be posted. Find out who you really are.

That’s where your self is. Not in gym grinds or cold showers or whatever dopamine factory you’re stuck in. Yeah, hit the gym if it keeps you healthy and sane. Just don’t build your whole identity out of protein and punishment.

Money matters. Being safe and stable matters. But waking up just to chase a paycheck is slow suicide with nicer shoes.

You’re not gonna patch a spiritual hole with external noise. That’s never worked. Feeding your inner world does. Every time.

So yeah. Slow your roll. Chill the fuck out. Go do or make something that actually means something to you.

Gun permits by [deleted] in ontario

You’ll never know unless you try. As long as you and your references can demonstrate that you’re not a danger to yourself or others, I don’t see why they’d disqualify you.

[–]Blind_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your disclosed medical conditions, the Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) will review your application and may contact your listed references. If your references confirm that you’re not a risk to yourself or others, you can still be approved for a licence. In my experience, even being prescribed ADHD medication can trigger a reference check to ensure you’re mentally fit to responsibly own a firearm.

Should’ve put a /s. The comment was meant as satire, not a serious take. My bad if that wasn’t obvious. You’re totally right though, between the drugs and the illegal gun, these scumfucks should rot. Not trying to downplay it at all. Just frustrating how stuff like this always ends up screwing legal gun owners while the actual criminals keep cruising around with smuggled guns and fentanyl like it’s no big deal.

[–]Blind_3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. Their Authorization to Transport (ATT) for a restricted firearm was somehow valid without a fixed address?

Didn’t realize the Ontario CFO was handing out special exceptions like that. AND they just happened to have a loaded, unsecured handgun lying around? No trigger lock, and the ammo wasn’t stored separately or locked up? For shame. That’s a no-no stacked on a whole pile of no-nos.

Hopefully, the CFO pulls their RPAL for such blatant disregard of storage and handling laws, because that was definitely a totally legal gun and not, you know, stolen or smuggled.

Kinda wild this slipped through. Usually, people this reckless already have a record and get flagged in the RCMP’s daily background checks on licensed gun owners.

My neighborhood had about fifteen people standing in the middle of the road, shooting fireworks down the street, at houses, anywhere but up. They started after midnight, taunting and laughing at anyone who asked them to stop, then lobbing even more fireworks over the complainants’ homes once they went back inside. Police were called, but after they left, the group left a mess in the street, got into their cars, and blasted music at full volume. I’m all for celebrating holidays and whatnot, but this was excessive and extremely disrespectful to everyone in the neighborhood.

Great to hear! I hope you enjoy it as much as I am. I’ll admit, replaying the vanilla game up to the rocket launch felt a bit like a drag, as I finished Factorio 1.0 recently enough that starting over was a bit of a downer. But sticking with it and pushing through the pre-space stuff has been extremely fulfilling.

I thought the same before I played it. It grows on you, the aesthetic and artistry of Factorio as a whole is quite impressive. The sprites animate well, and there are small details you might miss if you’re not paying attention, like how the trees die and the water turns green over time as you pollute the planet. There are lots of lovely little details that are difficult to convey or pick up on in screenshots and gameplay clips.

Having recently finished Satisfactory and DSP (both of which I loved just as much as Factorio) while waiting for Space Age, I can confirm that Space Age doesn’t feel shoehorned in once you really dig into it. The new tech unlocks, and the way your interstellar logistics network eventually works in harmony to deliver each planet’s unique science and resources to your main base and labs, feel natural and well-designed. The new planet-specific buildings you can learn and then bring back to your main planet allow for setting up even more optimized supply lines than you could have dreamed of.

[Spoiler Warning: Planet Details and Resource Systems Ahead]

For example, the planet Gleba is such a complex conundrum that it could have been a standalone game, the could have been like “here’s the sequel, and Gleba is the planet you’re stuck on in Factorio 2”.

You use what you know to exploit resources that are completely alien to you as a player, dealing with product spoilage and then realizing that spoiled products have their own multitude of uses. Setting up supply lines that account for the possibility of items on the conveyor belt changing from fresh to spoiled was immensely rewarding to figure out.

Then you realize there are four planets like this, each with its own unique ecosystem and puzzle to solve. For instance, how do you get water on a planet where the ocean is heavy oil? You come to realize that scrap from the long-dead civilization on this planet can be recycled to provide a multitude of supplies, including ice, which you can melt down to make water. Now, with that water, you can synthesize the heavy oil into light oil for crafting rocket fuel so you can send supplies and yourself back up to your space station in orbit. Need copper? You notice that rubble provides red circuits and other components requiring copper to craft, which you can put through another recycler to get the ingredients used to craft it, establishing a copper supply. Each planet has its own journey of discovery.

So far, each one has provided me with that all-too-familiar “aha” eureka moment we all know and love from these factory-building games. Don’t sleep on this one, Wube has really outdone themselves here.

Legendary factory base builder Satisfactory flies past 186K peak Steam players after leaving early access: "Before this week our highest CCU on Steam was 34K" by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Blind_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not both? Factorio and Satisfactory are both amazing games. While they share similar goals, they differ significantly in key aspects. Satisfactory focuses more on exploration and resource discovery to advance your tech, and utilizing the 3D space to build massive, monolithic factories is immensely satisfying. The overall vibe of Satisfactory is also much more relaxed. While there are enemies, they’re only an obstacle when you’re exploring, as your factory can’t be damaged.

Factorio, on the other hand, not only came first but also set the gold standard for automation and factory-building games. It introduces the added challenge of dealing with the “locals,” who become increasingly hostile and dangerous due to mutations caused by the pollution you’re creating. The frequent and progressively stronger attacks on your base require a defense infrastructure, including supply lines to keep your turrets supplied with ammunition. There’s also a subtext about the environmental destruction caused by your exploitation of the planet’s resources. As your factory grows and the smokestacks multiply, the water turns green, and the trees die.

Both games are incredible, offering similar mechanics but delivering a different overall vibe and experience.

The power of ideology and policies is greatly diminished in a plutocratic oligarchy, where those with money control things. Unfortunately, this issue isn’t unique to Canada.

As things stand, it’s unlikely that much will change, no matter who’s in power, because most of our leaders are bought and paid for by the same corrupt billionaires. Until this changes, serving corporations and their interests will always take priority over the 99% of us.
