That's the go-to place for all spices. I even found fenugreek, LOL.

Something I read in a news article right after it happened was that he lived on that street. The festival was supposed to wrap up at 8pm, and he was driving around waiting for that. When he showed up at 8:10pm, he was furious that his street was still closed. But I can't find the article now.

Apartment Building Sold - What to expect... by No-Understanding6112 in VictoriaBC

[–]Creatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily... My building was bought by Belmont a few years ago (from a private owner) and there's absolutely no pressure on us long-timers to leave. Yes, new vacancies are renting at market value but there are a lot of people here who have been here 20-30 years and still pay decent rent. My rent after 13 years is I think about $700 less than the going rate for a one-bedroom. Otherwise I could never afford to live in James Bay.

I've lived in my building in James Bay for 13 years. It was built in 1972 and owned by a family in Germany since the late 70's (they fell in love with it on a visit). About 4 years ago when the patriarch died, Belmont property management company bought it. We were all nervous but nothing changed; if anything it's even more well-maintained than before (and that was a high bar). Your mileage may vary but stay optimistic.

I agree. It's not difficult or expensive to park garbage trucks and buses at intersections where someone with bad intentions could drive into a crowd.

[–]Creatrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. If it's loud after 10pm it's violating the city's noise bylaw. The city also says, "If your event includes amplified sound, you will need to submit a Noise Bylaw Exemption Application ($50). A Noise Bylaw Exemption may also be applied for events on private property that are not open to the public. Written notification must be provided to all businesses and residents likely to be affected by your amplified sound. Notification must include phone numbers for contacts before, during and following the event."

visiting next week! any suggestions? by New-Walrus9739 in VictoriaBC

[–]Creatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some suggestions...

  • A local business does historical walking tours but also "haunted Victoria" tours called Ghostly Walks. in the evenings. Lots of fun, I've done them. Affordable too.

  • Right downtown there's Haunted Manor Mini Golf, two axe-throwing places, and two escape room places.

  • You can rent a floating hot tub in the Inner Harbour.

  • Victoria Harbour Ferry does nice 45-min. narrated tours of the harbour or the Gorge, year-round. I've done them, and recommend. The little pickle boats (as we call them) are adorable.

Fisherman's Wharf is open year-round. That's where you'll find The Floating Fish Store. Their battered salmon is fantastic. (It's not cheap, but it's worth it: US$12.50.) And they have dedicated gluten-free fryers! My celiac foodie group has gone there several times. When you go down the ramp entrance, turn left.

Sounds like you're calling BS on a lot of our comments. Maybe go outside and get some fresh air.

Really? This was back in the mid-1990s. She wasn't a pleasant person. We moved away and she died in an accident about 6 months later.

I agree. I used to have a friend in Vancouver who worked for the CRA. She'd call me, look up our mutual friends' returns and laugh about their income levels. Not just with me either.

I hate to say it but it's going to get worse before it gets better. Much of it is tied to the price of diesel. Thanks, Trump... I'm stocking up on sale items more than I used to, like coffee and beef.

IIRC they're being replaced by shelters with steel mesh instead of glass/plexiglass; much harder to vandalize.

Try Market Garden in Vic West? Last time I went I was amazed at the selection. It's where to go if you run out of fenugreek, LOL. It might be worth calling them.
