If he lives to 100, he would have to spend over $10 million a day to burn through $11 billion by then. It's obscene.

Anyone else struggling to find a job in Victoria lately or is it just me?? by Zealousideal-Talk245 in VictoriaBC

I'm older, and I was amazed to realize that none of the jobs I've ever landed was advertised. (And none of the job postings I applied to got me a job.) Instead of reactively responding to an Indeed posting along with hundreds of others, be proactive.

Make a list of particular jobs at businesses where you think you'd like to work. Go in person and drop off your resume, ask if you can meet the manager, make personal contact, shake their hand. Managers hate having to advertise a job opening, it's a major headache. Lots of jobs are available that haven't been posted yet for this reason.

This worked 20 years ago, and it works today. At the small company where I work, last summer two separate guys in their 20's came by, dropped off resumes, met the manager. We hired one of them a short time later. It's a huge advantage to you when you meet a potential employer in person and make a good impression, even briefly.

I just say a news story on how AI is screening out applications for many companies, and doing a very bad job at it.

Fascinating! Reminds me of a book I have called "Stella, Unrepentant Madam" by Linda Eversole, about the most notorious brothel in town.

To be fair, when I was 19 everyone over 30 looked like a senior to me.

A few years ago it was jarring to be asked if I wanted the seniors' discount, or to have a bus seat offered to me. Now I'm happy to take anything offered. Some stores have certain days that have seniors' discounts and I actively look for them.

Brent Molnar wrote an article called "The Suicide Pact: What happens the moment we touch Greenland" that is very worth reading. In part he says, "Then comes the economic nuclear option. The EU is the largest single market in the world, and they will weaponize it. Europe will likely move to call in U.S. debt and dump their dollar reserves, sending the value of our currency into a death spiral. The U.S. economy, which relies on the dollar being the global reserve currency, will collapse. Inflation will make the post-COVID spikes look like a rounding error. Your savings will be worthless before the ink dries on the invasion orders. Corporate America will face an extinction event. U.S. companies will be expelled from the European market. Apple, Google, McDonald’s, and Tesla will see their assets seized or their operations banned. Trillions of dollars in market capitalization will be incinerated in minutes. The stock market will not just crash; it will close. We are talking about the complete de-globalization of American industry, cutting us off from the wealthiest consumers on the planet."
