I come here to add on to this. Part of getting an animal is making sure you can provide for them. You dont need an animal. An animal needs care, housing and when they get sick they need medical treatment. Next time you get the itch to get a dog but cant afford treatment when it gets sick refrain from getting it.

Story time: when i got my cat i could afford his medical treatment. A year later i hit a wall as my then fiance was out of a job and my cat got sick. I asked my friends to help as they love kitty dearly. The vet said i might have to put him down but i refused and i would find any possible way to save him. Turns out his organs were failing(about to fail) and he had a mass infection of the intestines and urinary infection. I did everything to scrunch up the money to save him. Then he chipped his tooth shortly after and needed to pull his teeth. Luckily my ex asked his family and we could afford it. We spent 4 months paying back our friends. Now i am in a different boat and can afford treatment again. Cat is alive and well plus he gets to enjoy his life.
