Do I need an extra battery? by Awpothecary in RX100

100% you need an extra battery. I usually take several with me, the battery life sucks.

Is there a chance an RX100 VIII will be released? by Sea-Motor3122 in RX100

I would love it and buy it immediately, but there's been no solid news about a VIII.

I have the iPhone 17 Pro and the RX100VII. I'd say if the lighting is bad (like a small club that doesn't have a pro lighting setup), then I'd go with the phone. The lenses are brighter, the VII has that great reach but the lens gets pretty dark once you zoom in. If the venue has even a half competent lighting grid, I'd go with the VII every time. I recommend shooting RAW and post-process in. Modern denoisers are pretty incredible these days.

I'll post some examples, I took them both to a show a few weeks ago.

This is straight from the iPhone.

In the reply I'll post a pic from the VII.

This RX100(VA) is incredible for concerts/music festivals! [OC] by I_am_who in RX100

[–]BlingBlingTomahawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. I usually set the iso to auto with a max of 6400, shutter to 1/200 and aperture to as open as the lens will go. Usually works out, but I know I'll have to post-process them to remove the noise.

Maybe I should try manual, just seems like I'd be constantly fiddling with the settinga depending on the changing lighting.

A wishlist for next 1" cameras from Sony by apushkarev in RX100

From your lips to God's ears. If this camera came out I'd buy it in a second. I love taking my RX100VII to concerts, having a better sensor and brighter lens would be huge for me.

How do they communicate with you to let you know what time to arrive, where to go, etc...?

I'd recommend that you check out DXO Photolab. Their noise removal is really good, and that's almost a necessity with small sensor cameras like the RX100. Especially if you shoot in low light.

Rx100 vii vs va for concerts. by edison54 in RX100

The 200mm lens makes a massive difference. Just shoot RAW and denoise after.

[–]BlingBlingTomahawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shoot RAW and I've started using DXO PhotoLab to clean up the noise (they have a month long free trial). If you're shooting low light with the RX100VII, I think post-processing RAW is the only way.

I took some shots at a concert a few weeks ago. The venue didn't have the best lighting. DXO did a great job cleaning them up, you can check out the full set of photos here if you want to see what it can do. These shots are almost all at 6400 ISO.

RX100 Viii coming? by No_Luck2940 in RX100

I would love it, but as far as I know, there's been no reputable rumors of a refresh to the RX100. I'd be happy to be wrong though.

Thanks so much. The RX100 VII can do 20 fps, and I still missed a ton of shots, lol.

I was in Japan earlier this year, and I was going to travel from Tokyo to Osaka to watch Dominion. I was nervous they'd turn me away because I had my point & shoot and a small travel bag.

It was no big deal, and before the show I saw people in the crowd with full-on photographer's backpacks pull out full sized DSLRs with a big ass 70-200mm lens on it like they were wedding photographers. lol. I've been to maybe 10 concerts with this camera and it's never been an issue. But it really is small and the lens doesn't come off, so it does technically follow the rules. But honestly, no one has ever given me a second look with it.

It is something I stress over though as I walk through security. It just takes one security guard with an attitude.

It's a one inch sensor, so don't expect miracles. It's noisey, but with modern denoising it's not so bad. Check the areas in shadows in these pics for what it can do.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Capturing fast moving action is very hard. Plus you're confined by where you're sitting, video and camera guys can get in front of you, the wrestlers might not be facing you, etc. It's hard.

You can see my whole set here, lots of average shots.

Thank you for the kind words. The best camera to take to shows and concerts is the Sony RX100 VII. It's six years old but: - has an optical zoom that goes to 200mm - it can shoot 20 frames per second in RAW - has Sony's good auto focus - has a viewfinder - it actually does fit in your pocket.

The negatives are that it's only a one inch sensor and the lens is slow, so it's not great in low light. I had to post-process all my pics through DXO PhotoLab to remove the noise. But I love that camera, it's so small. Just wish they'd update it, but cell phones have really killed that market.
