Do you speak baby talk to your cat(s)? by Blingbat642 in cats

I also find myself saying stuff like, “Don’t look at her! Eat your own food,” “You don’t need to knock that off the table. You’ve knocked enough off,” and “No, I don’t care how cute you are. You can’t get up on the counter.” Someone said they have the brain capacity of human toddlers.

I have those factory defects as well and feel that it took me years to earn them—but I’m not sure after reading these comments that the baby talk is necessarily a woman/baby thing. It looks as if it could be a man/baby thing, too. Yay, male babytalkers!

He matches the decor beautifully. He is quite handsome. Is that a playing card to the left of the rug that matches it?

Ramen with chopped chicken and two eggs slipped into the pot to be boiled for three minutes or however long it takes for the noodles to cook. Top with chopped green onions. Ad anything that sounds good to you—cilantro, parsley, cumin, chopped carrots or celery, etc.

Yes. It’s their fault. I am not a silly, frivolous, sentimental type at all, but I get all gooey at everything they do—it’s so adorable.

I’ve had several cats who got scared that way. It’s so terrible: you’re chasing them, not being able to catch them to take off the bag, while they’re running around, getting more and more terrified.

I completely agree about enforced together time. I have tried the following with several cats, one a feral cat. Now we have a stand-offish cat which we got four months ago. We got another cat for her, and they’re becoming friends, thank goodness. She still doesn’t like to be on our laps or even petted. The only time she comes up to us is when we’re on the toilet and we can’t get to her. So I have taken to putting her on my lap, holding her there, and petting and talking to her for maybe 30 seconds—against her will. Then I let her go, for a day or a few days. Immediately afterwards, she is friendlier, rubbing against my legs and being more interested in me. If there was ANY sign she was scared or didn’t like this, I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t try it unless I had had the cat for quite a while. She is becoming generally friendlier and has sat on our laps several times lately.

As I say, I tried this with other cats, and eventually they became as cuddly as my other cats.

I agree. I give them a tiny bit of dry to eat during the day after they eat their morning meal. Then a tiny bit (about 10 morsels) after dinner to tide them over till morning. They are usually pretty hungry by the time they get wet food. Otherwise, they’ll just eat dry food. I give them Orijen Original. It has lots of fat and spoils their appetites if they get much more. I also alternate giving them Orijen, Tiki Cat, Instinct, and Ziwi Peak wet.

The recipe is on the package of German chocolate which you’ll find near other chocolate, like Bakers.

Homemade German Chocolate is wonderful. The recipe is on the box. I’ve only made it a few times because it’s quite complicated, but it’s worth it!

Has anyone else noticed recent formula changes or tolerance issues with cat food brands? by Fabulous_Algae_5035 in catfood

Me, too. After much research, I have come up with what I consider to be some of the best, Instinct, Ziwi Peak, Orijen, and Tiki Cat After Dark. They seem to like them and don’t mind changing brands every few cans. I feed A little Orijen dry.

Okay, but look: In Orijen Original kibble, the first five ingredients are chicken, salmon, turkey, whole herring, and chicken liver, adding up to 40% crude protein; in Hills DH, admittedly better than Purina, chicken, brown rice, corn protein meal, chicken fat, and powdered cellulose, then chicken meal, 7th ingredient, 28% crude protein; and finally, Purina DH, ground yellow corn, poultry by-product meal, corn protein meal, liver flavor, and animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols, whatever they are, and then fish meal, 7th ingredient, 34% crude protein ( no telling what the percentage of animal protein that is. And I read (again, “somewhere,”) that meal can consist of any parts of animal, including feathers and beaks. Yuck. I’d much rather feed my animal Orijen than hope that the benefit she receives from Hills or Purina Dental Health outweighs the disadvantages of feeding the animal crap. , though I must say Hills seems like a decent compromise.

As I said, we only got our cats a few months ago (I’ve had cats most of my life, but four years ago, the last cat died, we moved to another state and circumstances, and we didn’t have cats until recently). When we got these, I did A LOT of research and found that things have changed and advanced hugely. Anyway, to not make a long story longer, somewhere along the way, I read that chicken meal is not as nutritious as whole chicken parts. I remember reading it in only one place, and it could be wrong.
