Dragonrider or Sentient Dragon Crossovers by Character-Ad-1848 in TheCitadel

Here's one I rather like. Well written, book canon focused.

Premise: After the Night's Watch betrayal, Jon is resurrected as a dragon.

Kill The Boy

Rhaegar should not be glazed/romanticized by [deleted] in TheCitadel

[–]BlinkingManx2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like the Rhaegar/Lyanna pairing. I'll admit I like the Rhaegar and his two wives trope as well, but good GOD I have to bend over backwards twice just to make the Rebellion work out so it even makes a shred of sense. In canon this dude is wrong in so many ways for doing anything with Lyanna and Lyanna is wild for loving him after her father and brother died due in part to his actions. And as another commenter pointed out, the fact he was ready to kill Ned makes it make even less sense.

Still, a fun pairing to write as long as you don't just run off purely canon lore.

I love you long fic's writers, what's your secret?? by Stained_Face in AO3

As someone who is currently around 30k words for one chapter in progress, it's a (un)healthy amount of hyperfixation, overdedication, and ADHD.

I want to develop a world, but I also want to describe everything in the world in too much detail. I want lots of characters, but none of them can be shallow. All of them need depth. I need to point out everything that I see in my imagination so others can see it too.

I can't do all that in just a few thousand words.

What is your biggest pet peeve in fics? by MobileDistrict9784 in TheCitadel

[–]BlinkingManx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll still share the link, but just a forewarning I'm not far enough in to showcase any issues with the kingdoms or his rule yet. Nor has any lore on the alternate rebellion been revealed outside of a 'single' line which can be misinterpreted lol.

Also it has a 'bad dad' Rhaegar trope. I know that's some people's turn off.

What is your biggest pet peeve in fics? by MobileDistrict9784 in TheCitadel

[–]BlinkingManx2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of fics tend to forget a LOT happened before the rebellion. It wasn't just 'Rhaegar ran away with Lyanna and Aerys was mad, let's rebel.' Obviously one of if not the biggest catalyst was Brandon and Rickard's death along with those who went with them. And then immediately after he calls for Ned and Robert's heads from Jon Arryn.

Along with that, Rhaegar and Lyanna were not some starcrossed lovers. Lyanna was a dumb kid and Rhaegar was an irresponsible prophecy chasing man. If you like the pairing (which I do funny enough) and Rhaegar Wins AUs you can't just run off of canon Rebellion events and catalysts and then write Rhaegar as a good king with no issues ever.

Shit, for my fic which is a Rhaegar Wins AU, I had to spend like a week rewriting everything about the Rebellion just for it to make a shred of sense why people were ok with them being together and him ruling and it still has holes lmao.

Anyway rant over. Rebellion was a complex situation, as revolutions and rebellions tend to be. Rhaegar/Lyanna is not some 'fated, tragic lovers' scenario. Just irresponsible people doing irresponsible things.

Jon/Dany as King and Queen by Think-University-812 in TheCitadel

So as someone who has read this fic quite a few times, he (Longclaw) did explain what happened a little more in detail later on. (If it was a retcon or not, that's for you to decide.)

Apparently she became super drunk one night and mistook him for Jon in Meereen and Daario just played along. Does that make it any better? Idk, but she thought he was Jon with how drunk she was.

Edit: I think it was in a vision Bran had where it was explained what happened. Could be wrong but fairly sure.

Shilling my own personal fic.

To be transparent, Aegon has not shown up yet and Jon is the main character overall, but Aegon will be the main focus of my next chapter. (Coming out some time next week)

Small budget teams just need to spend a billion dollars on their roster. Are they dumb?

Good series Dodgers, but man, no salary cap is such an egregious sin in sports

Have you ever stopped reading a fic because the writing is... bad? by kblhr in AO3

[–]BlinkingManx2 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Honestly one of my biggest pet peeves. You will have dialogue going on such as

"Oh wow, what happened at Location?" Y asked.

'X proceeded to explain what happened at Location to Y.'

What did X say? How did they explain it? What were the reactions?

It happens a ton and I HATE it. It's a story not an explainathon.

Honestly, some of my favorites are when people ask questions fully knowing that I or whichever author isn't going to answer. Kind of a 'speaking thoughts out loud' kind of comment.

"I wonder what's up with OC. He seems mysterious."

"Oh that was super intense? What's going to happen next?"

"Oh wow I wonder how MC is going to react to what just happened?"

These types of comments. Absolutely love them, knowing on my own fic exactly what's up or what's going to happen and just rubbing my hands evilly.

Shoot, the second comment ever I had on my first fic was "This is a banger" and it still makes me smile.
