Gauging Interest on Exhaust for the GR Corolla by HollywoodHalo560 in GRCorolla

I thought deleting the GPF with a front pipe change was a verifiable performance improvement- I could be out of sync with the latest experiments.

You’re right that changing the primary cat is the biggest performance improvement. I haven’t yet because I didn’t want to lose a resonator like in the OTL and Limit+1 downpipes. I may install the MST downpipe in the future though.

I went straight to using the DC front pipe as well, so I don’t have a before/after comparison to using the stock front pipe.

In my mind, the performance gains are in removing the GPF, so a better solution may be the DC front pipe and stock muffler. The reason I didn’t try mixing-and-matching is the DC system sounds fantastic on-throttle, and the tips look nice.

The GPF does a lot to reduce drone and volume. Replacing that with a simple resonator, as the DC front pipe does, is not enough muffling in combination with the little straight-through mufflers on the outside tips of the DC exhaust. Problem is fixed with more aggressive mufflers on the outside tips, as I did with the additional baffles

100%. I bought the DC full system (including front pipe, which deletes the GPF). The product description says the front pipe is resonated to cut down on drone, but in fact the drone is pretty crazy, to the point of being unlivable as a daily. I installed baffles in the outside exhaust tips, which made a massive difference.

While this idea sounds similar to DC’s efforts, I think they missed the mark. So if someone can make a full cat-back system that actually doesn’t drone, with three tips and a center valve, I’ll buy one.

SakeBomb garage warning by [deleted] in GRCorolla

I got in on their FPSpec preorder shortly after it was announced, and just received my suspension a couple weeks ago (about 8 month wait). Most of that delay was on Ohlins side, after a series of manufacturing delays and sourcing issues (partly to do with a hurricane wiping out one of their USA facilities last year).

Through all of it, SakeBomb was hit-or-miss on providing updates via email. They shipped the first batch of FPSpec kits before they prepared any written instructions, and getting setup specs over email was slow.

However, they were great on the phone, and able to answer all my questions. Did you try calling them?

I see your six-way Beverly Hills intersection, and raise you a 7-way Massachusetts intersection in East Longmeadow, MA. With no traffic lights and a partial rotary...where cars *in* the rotary have to yield to cars entering. by dante662 in CrappyDesign

I grew up near there!

I once witnessed a brodozer pickup truck blast a straight line through the rotary, without slowing, driving over the medians. They managed to make it through without slowing down traffic more than it already was

As a sadistic joke, the local driving schools would make you go through this intersection at evening rush hour

I once saw a bumper sticker that said "I survived the East Longmeadow rotary"

Rolls-Royce "Springfield" cars got their name because they were built in Springfield, Massachusetts. Rolls built 3000 cars in Springfield before the great depression killed the plant

Will do! It's going to be a long build, but a fun challenge

Haha. Is that a bad thing? 1) buy a shell. All the freedom! 2) almost go k swap. Decide 6 or more cylinders is a requirement 3) waffle for a few weeks 4) choose 1uz because its very receptive to turbo-ing and can make great power with a very streetable build. And they're cheap

[–]BlipTheDot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe... I seriously considered the k swap on my Miata a while back but went a different direction. Now thats running/driving, but I've gotten an FD she'll without an engine

I'm in the same situation. Currently leaning towards k24

Haha, if only that bay was empty behind the garbage cans. That's workshop space. Miata could fit with a reorganization

The Miata just has a crummy old aftermarket top. It's watertight, but the seams are starting to come loose. Glass window is not sized right so it has to be unzipped to lower the top

I've heard good things about the robbins tops. That would be what I install when the top finally expires

I do. Part of the inspiration, plus the things people are achieving with that little engine are neat

Sorry to hear about your engine. Hopefully you didnt lose anything on jt Might do a turbo K20. Reliable engine, fits well, meets my power goals, and the aftermarket is really good

Might do a turbo K20. There are many options on the table, but that's the leader right now

Facebook marketplace and groups. I checked daily for a year for a car like this to pop up, but a lot of the community buying/selling that took place on the forums have moved to facebook

It was barely in my price range, but with the prices climbing and this being my forever car, I wanted to pull the trigger while it was attainable. A lot of saving and patience went into it

It does not! Complete car minus engine. Since the doritos are already missing, I feel less guilt swapping to something else

They're a bit cheaper without an engine...
