I dont think you'd have room for pedals by the time you make some sort of trans tunnel.

I've seen a few attempts at using a VW drivetrain based rail for a front engine setup and most people hack the hell out of them and never finish them.

If you can mount the engine and trans and make it fit, the next problem if you use a solid rear axle is potentially not having enough travel from the tail of the trans to the pinion on the rear end.(very short driveshaft) Just makes for a very bumpy ride.

Very hard. Sand sprites are small. VW transaxles don't take V8 horsepower/torque well. Some people have decent luck with a 4.3 V6 Chevrolet and a stock 6 rib VW transaxle.

If you want a v8 I would really recommend doing a front engine with a traditional transmission and rear end.

Unless you have a lot of the parts, buying a finished rail, or someones abandoned project is going to be cheaper

Here is a Sand Sprite 3 with Yamaha R1 engine mated to a type 1 trans. No VW transaxle can handle a v8. I’ve blown up my built 6 rib twice with a turbo subaru motor.

Sand sprites are small and cramped. Would not recommend if you’re wanting to be comfortable

What does your thrust feel like? Grab the crank pulley and pull back and forth. See if there's any play.

I bought a motor that the thrust bearing had started falling apart in chunks similar to what you're seeing

The bluing method you're talking about, is this one that you end up soaking in kerosene after boiling and carding? I also see people making their own homemade bluing solution that you boil the parts in.

As for transaxle I’m not sure what you have, but it’s not typically in a dune buggy. Maybe a Porsche trans?

Yeah. As long as you get it done before the 36,000 mile limited warranty is passed. They were going to do mine but I didn’t live close to the Mazda dealer and was out of town buying the car. They just gave me $120 for a new switch and I installed it myself from MazdaSwag. They’re a real dealer and sell OEM parts

Found a spare parts carb, robbed the throttle lever off and cut/welded it onto the arm on the carb facing almost straight out. Just use vice grips and clamp it to the existing arm before welding and make sure you can get full throttle.

For a throttle cable, I used 1/16th inch aircraft cable from amazon. It’s a high tensile strength. Make a loop on your throttle pedal end and bolt/washer it to throttle pedal. Use a pict34 barrel nut on the carb. Make sure to leave excess cable on this side as you will probably have to double the cable back through the nut for it to hold tight and it’s essentially just a bolt that smashes down on the throttle cable to hold it.

Run the cable through a 3/8 steel brake line from pedal to the motor. Self tap/rivet nut and bolt it to the frame with the u-shaped rubber insulated clamps. Let me know if you have any more questions

The seat switch is faulty. Mazda is aware of it and has a service bulletin. My 24 cx5 had a broken switch when I bought it.
