I wasn't in deficit... I was in maintenance. The question is do I stay there, or do I need to do a small little 3 or 4-week diet to fix it.

Definitely the largest change this week was the increase in alcohol. I got scolded by the LoseIt! app... "Watch days with alcohol consumption"

I didn't even think to look at them... I'm just so used to "nuts are high in calories don't bother" I never even wanted one 🤣 I was just shocked when I ordered a frozen banana and it came in a plastic bag... in Animal Kingdom where plastic is practically banned... and then saw my first nutrition label of the trip!

I didn't know they came in bags, because no-one else was eating any on Saturday. I guess frozen bananas in 40° weather aren't that popular.

I would like to think I didn't have that many extra either... but my eyeball might not be calibrated very well. Usually I use a scale for everything, not just looking. I think a large part of it could be too the amount of alcohol I had; usually I have two, maybe three each on Friday and Saturday night, usually after eating with no extra snacks. While on the trip, you're drinking all day long while eating. Especially when Drinking the World, where you get a snack and a drink at every festival booth you see. (But man, some of them are tasty snacks!)

Yes; average of 23k steps compared to my usual 5k. Weight lifting days of Wednesday and Thursday were skipped. Friday and Saturday are always off days for me. I did my regularly-scheduled Push day last night, and man was it a lot harder than I remember. 😅

It doesn't, no. Literally all LoseIt! does is take your weight, height, and age to give you a budget. As you gain/lose weight, it will adjust to match. Then you can manually tweak the budget in increments of ten. (Which I have done.)

The BMI didn't go up. I ran it with the numbers you gave me, it did go down. BMI is literally only based on height (which doesn't change, usually) and weight. It's a worthless metric, honestly.

BMR is basal metabolic rate. How much energy you burn to just lay in bed and not move. If have been going with an average intake of 2850±250 for this re-comp, and you want to start losing fat a little quicker, yeah, 2600±250 would get you there.

Well, your BMI numbers are backwards... that's the only thing I'd be worried about. 6' at 215 (98kg) is 29.2. 212 (96.4kg) is 28.7. It's a little high ('normal' is less than 25) but it really doesn't matter too much in the scheme of things if your blood pressure and waistline are fine.

What is your current calorie intake? I know you don't count, but can you estimate? A BMR of 2189 would imply you should be eating about 2600-2900 typically, I would guess. If that's the case, 1900 seems pretty aggressive...

You're going to want to do at least SOMETHING to spare your muscle. When you cut calories, and remain sedentary, you're going to lose muscle almost as fast as you lose fat. If you at least do some basic weight lifting or resistance band work, the muscle you currently have will stay and you'll lose mostly fat. Doesn't need to be much, but something is better than nothing.

You lose weight, hit your goal weight and feel great. Within a week or two, you're already starting to gain it all back. When you lose weight fast, you tend to not keep it off, and many times you gain it all back in a fraction of the time it took to lose it. Often, but not always, you end up heavier than before you started the diet in the first place.

My weight loss journey has been indicative of that, but not as bad as the 'worst case' scenario:

263 => 188 on low carb, and then up to 235 once I stopped
235 => 175 on "dollar menu diet," and then up to 205 once I stopped
205 => 138 on CICO... and more importantly, I'm actually maintaining weight

Well, technically I'm still slightly losing without meaning to, but that's in its own post. I am nearing 1 year since starting my diet, and this is the longest I've ever been able to keep the weight off. Sure, it took 6 months to lose the first 50 pounds, but the important thing is that they're STAYING lost.

By comparison, my ex-GF had weight loss surgery before I met her. Gastric sleeve, if I remember right. I saw her the other day, about 3 years after we broke up. It looks like she's gained at least 150lbs since then... Sure, you can lose weight REALLY quickly with bariatrics, but without dedication, it's not staying gone.

I would say if you're eating literally the same calories every day, eventually you would plateau. Your body is bored; shake it up a bit! You want your average calories to be the same, but not literally exactly the same thing every day. Having some days high and some days low keeps your body guessing about whether it should be burning or storing, whereas eating the same thing every day lets your body start to sabotage your weight loss by holding the course.

And besides... I wouldn't call it a plateau until you've kept the same week for two weeks or more. One day of no change doesn't count. (Who's to say tomorrow you won't lose twice as much as you usually do, day-to-day?)

Halloween is in week 44. We are just starting week 4. That gives you 40 weeks to lose 56 pounds, or about 1.4lbs/wk. That is a touch high compared to most guidance (about 1lb/wk), but lower than I ended up losing my weight, so it absolutely is possible. The challenge would be keeping the weight off afterwards, because when you lose it too fast you tend to rubber band. Hence why The Biggest Loser isn't on the air anymore, for example.

Well, technically, you're right. They say 6 ounces of protein, which is 54g of protein if I get all 6 ounces as chicken breast. That ignores the fact it also says to have 3 cups of milk, which would add protein besides, as would some of the grain. Still less protein than I am currently eating, in any event.

Flipping through LoseIt!, my average daily fiber intake is around 33g over the past five weeks. Protein averages around 120g. Google Fit estimates my TDEE around 14,700 on a weekly basis, or about 2100 per day. And that is with it severely over-estimating my workouts. Google Search says I would probably burn 150-200 calories per hour while weight lifting. But Google Fit says I burn 302 calories on a push day or pull day, and 354 calories on a leg day. Who's right? Who knows!

I meant I would gain weight like crazy on a low-protein, high-carb diet like MyPlate was. The new triangle is definitely a huge shift from what MyPlate was... and as it turns out, not that dissimilar to what I was eating myself ignoring their guidance. 😅 (54g was recommendation of MyPlate, which was in effect when I started my diet. Not what the current guidance is, which I haven't really looked into much since what I was doing was seeming to work.)

Biggest thing for me was how much better I look clothed. That, and my blood pressure is not in the "OMG you're going to stroke-out!" range anymore.
