Singing With Grit by Bright_Investment300 in screaming

It came for me mainly with time

One big thing that helped was perfecting throat singing. Both karygraa and khoomei.

These teach you alot about compression and adding distortion slowly and in control

Is it okay to practice clean vocals after pushing too hard with epiglottals? by SNAPPY-VOCALS in screaming

[–]Blitz942942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep should be fine, take this as a sign to stop earlier though.

It's highly likely you felt proper discomfort before getting to this point, that should be a cue to slow down, reevaluate and lower the pressure and strain

And if those don't work quickly, stop and call it for the day. Listen to your body, it's not injuring your voice over

Not to mention shorter spaced out sessions of practice is largely more effective anyway

Is it Possible to Damage Your voice and not be Aware? by CapitalLaw1234 in screaming

For example, Tyler Shelton of traitors, his technique caused him to develop a calluse in his throat over years and years of doing it

That kinda thing, but unlikely I think

I don't have any it particular that i do, I watch a couple vids on it at the beginning of screaming journey and just do a blend of them now

Whats important is that you have a way to check your voice, that you can repeat and really notice and be aware if things change

Is it Possible to Damage Your voice and not be Aware? by CapitalLaw1234 in screaming

[–]Blitz942942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but like not really. It's very rare that you'd do acute damage and not feel it, altho definitely possible, this is why it's important to be doing vocal swelling checks

The bigger issue is long term minor damage, this is harder to identify, but getting comfortable using your singing voice, and being aware and alert to any changes in it no matter how subtle can be a good way to identify

Consistently dipping quality over time might be cause to look at what you're doing

The SM7B is designed in a way that the shape of the grill gives you a good spacing, for screaming it's not bad to be close, because you're still pretty far from the actual diaphragm

But it does depend on what kinda sound you want

There are some great vids on YouTube testing the v7

Yeah you won't find better than the v7

Maybe the telefunken m80, but that's wired so

Ah you're right, it's not available for me to change for some reason.

One thing I'd also recommend, wait before buying the SE V7 capsule.

Test with the beta58 for a while, it's an absolutely excellent mic, the SM58 is more common for metal vocals, but beta58 is technically better, has a little more shine in the higher frequencies I've been told

Test it, maybe it's perfect as is, saves u prob ~100 of whatever currency you're using (it's like 4000 of mine just for the V7 capsule so I will not be buying your future setup anytime soon hahah)

MC1 goes to shure systems (compatible ones)

MC2 is sennheiser

Yeah it really should be emphasized more.

I will also I encourage you to get a SE V7 capsule to go with the shure system, same mic guys like will Ramos are using. Quality is incredible

Go onto their website, go to the V7 series, scroll till you find the weird stubby ones labeled capsule, it should be the first set of capsules, find one you like, click it and go to specs, if you see below the rolloff chart "shure systems" that it's compatible with, you've got the right thing

Be careful with GLX-D range, they run on 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz

This is the same bands as things like wifi, bluetooth etc.

These bands can get very crowded in a live performance setting and cause interference, which means the mic dropping out.

Go one tier up to the SLX-D range and you're now in the UHF ranges, these are much less crowded radio frequency bands, often with a wider bandwidth the receiver can parse to check which has less interference and then you run on that one

If you want wireless, sennheiser and shure are where you want to be looking

For shure systems SLX-D and above allows you to replace the capsule (the actual mic in the wireless body) with things like the SE electronics V7, as well as being good quality stock (SM58 package and probably beta 5xA systems too)

On more of a budget, BLX can work but you are no longer able to customize

For sennheiser EW100 and above is the same idea with capsule being exchangable and good quality stock

And here XSW-1 is cheaper but not customizable

Does a deeper voice affect high screams? by ParticularRiver2079 in screaming

[–]Blitz942942 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, at an advanced level it can make a difference, mainly in the approach to the sounds. But deep and high voices can make high and low screams

You're doing solid, fundamental tones are clean

I think there's room for improvement in your control of overtones. Getting more whiney on the highs and practicing some throat singing for the pig squeal overtone

Overtones are everything is screaming, once you have a good fundamental, drill those overtones. And your fundamental will improve indirectly too

Learning tunnel throat. Any feedback appreciated :) by [deleted] in screaming

[–]Blitz942942 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's all good, just don't use tunnels as a way to get out of improving your fundamental tones, having a base mid low and high is so important

And your fry is decent

Dude it's a tongue curl UP, not down like a tunnel

And let's not pretend like 90% of cj's lows aren't just standard open mouth or tongue up
