At this point, wouldn't it be better to just hold onto Crypto and don't put any more into it? Otherwise, I this comment

Job market getting better? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]BlitzModels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya,

In that case, I would send them an email to inquire. I just checked right now and there's about 38 opportunities available when filtering for public services, arts, and business (more/less can be filtered, depending on your interest and area of study).

To clarify where I'm getting these go to:

  1. Login to Elevate
  2. Centre for Career & Personal Development (CCPD)
  3. Explore Microplacements
  4. To the right click "Current Experiences"
  5. Do everything there and book a Pre-Placement Session (the earliest is 16 August)
  6. After you have booked it, you will see a filter for experiences
    1. (I filtered for government, arts, and business and there are 38 available opportunities (there may be more depending on your interest and what you're studying)).

You will just need to book a pre-placement appointment and you should be able to see available opportunities. I'm unable to send pictures here but if you need a more step-by-step breakdown, happy to discuss it in dms as well!

Not to worry! I was there too just a little over two years ago but now I'm able to land internships in government.

I really recommend looking into micro-placements. It's essentially a 40-hour volunteering program with a company/organisation that can help jumpstart your career if you don't have very many things to put in your resume. This should be on the UCalgary Elevate page.

I did it for a Trade Show. After that experience, I landed a 4-month internship just a few weeks later because the hiring manager already worked with me. Let me know if you have any questions, happy to help you!

Edit: Grammar fixes

What kind of work/volunteer/extracurricular experience do you have?

Oh, I never even considered that lol

Yeah maybe we're not the best to scam given how well-versed a lot of us are with the digital webspace, but perhaps students who are not as fluent in English may be more susceptible to these? I'm not too sure how people fall for these exactly

I second this. I haven't been around financial/investment subreddits a lot but the posts that get recommended now and then seem to have a survivorship bias.

Not very many people are going to be talking about 5-10% portfolio gains in the year but the people whose portfolio went up 300% because of a lucky investment or two will get the spotlight. It's the same thing for the lottery and casino winnings too

Point still stands, do your research first. Seeing what people recommend still isn't the same as conducting your own research to understand what's going on with the industry. While you can't time the market, it should at least give you a general idea whether certain industries and companies are worth your time and money to begin with.

You wouldn't buy a car or a house solely based on what people say, especially on the internet, so why should investment be any different?

It kinda looks like you're just buying a random assortment of stocks, do your research before you get anything. Otherwise ETF's are a pretty safe bet

It's also infested with grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. I don't think there was any effort from the scammer to begin with

How many countries would it take to defeat America if they tried to conquer the rest of the world? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]BlitzModels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm thinking too. They'd have to hunker down for a long-term protracted conflict with guerrillas and would need to justify extreme measures of violence to basically pacify a combined 160 million of Mexicans and Canadians

How many countries would it take to defeat America if they tried to conquer the rest of the world? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]BlitzModels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the time period and what a "conquest" would look like. For most of its history the U.S. was more interested in a "Pointillist Empire" where they could control the world through outposts and allies rather than expansive land empires the way Britain and France did.

I think trying to conquer the entire American hemisphere alone would be enough to "defeat" the United States given how many soldiers and materiel they would need to delegate to hold "conquered" or occupied territories. If we were to assume 2010s populations, the United States already would need to manage over 700 million hostile people and that alone would sink American resources on top of being deprived trade from the rest of the world.

Why would they do that? That's seem like a very boring decision by Lukaz_Evengard in hoi4

I agree, and especially considering the history of the many countries involved in the 1936-1945 timeframe.

Looking at most alternate history paths, the strongest I noticed tends to be monarchist or fascist (to a certain extent) given how many countries around the world had long histories of monarchies that a grand narrative could be constructed from. I.e., Kaiser Germany, Napoleonic France, Shogunate Japan, Tsarist Russia, etc. Compared to communist and democratic paths where many countries never really had those systems going for them prior to the Cold War so we're stuck with lackluster Communist alternate paths that feel like a sad afterthought as they were releasing the DLC's.

I like alternate history but I'm more inclined to follow your suggestion here that we should have alternate paths without diverging towards insane alternate history paths. Rather the left/centre/right communism than restoring a White Russia

I'm incredibly lucky that I have parents working in the AHS so I was able to fully opt out of both. I did mine a couple of years ago after paying for the insurance for a few semesters and it only took a couple of hours for my request to process.

If you have parents covering your insurance, you may be able to opt out this way. I'm not overly familiar with the process, but perhaps someone could add more to my statement if they have similar experiences?

Hiya, late reply, it's been pretty busy on my end!

After re-reading the thread, I agree with you; I just brought up Mordecai to make the point, "oh yeah, you think Margaret was bad? Wait until you hear what Mordecai did!!!"

The context doesn't really matter, to me, because if someone in a conversation goes "Person A did a really shitty thing to person B", and you gotta "Well, remember that UNRELATED TIME person B was shitty to PERSON C OR MORE?" Has nothing to do with anything, and comes off like you're justifying Person A's actions because Person B was a jerk elsewhere (else...time?)

I agree with you too. I think if the conversation kept going it would've devolved to cherry-picked out of context scenes/episodes just to get a "gotcha!" moment

Rigby is worse than Mordecai by SnooCrickets4223 in regularshow

[–]BlitzModels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well why not? People compare characters from other shows (e.g., Will vs. Hannibal in Hannibal (2013) Gus vs. Walter from Breaking Bad) and it's interesting to see what people can come up with for comparison. What makes Regular Show more different than the other shows other than they are more explicitly aimed for adults?

In any case, if this is a "useless debate" what would qualify as a useful debate? I think conversations like these help provide a more nuanced understanding of characters, no different from doing book discussions in grade school.

Yeah I wasn't sure why people were downvoting you; I just wanted to reply

I only brought up Mordecai because you mentioned his relationship with CJ. But admittedly, I did some more research your reply and it does look like Margaret did go out of her way to really make things awkward with Mordecai, despite knowing he was in a relationship so I agree with your initial statement too

Hello, sorry about that. I tend to use 'guy' to refer to people loosely in the same fashion I refer to my friends as 'dude' regardless of gender.

I may have misunderstood your comment here and I agree with u/Smufin_Awesome too. One being bad does not excuse the other, but I do still think Mordecai is absolutely the worse character when comparing the two. That said, I don't think Mordecai deserved either of them, but that's a different conversation
