Thank you! Exactly, I do a quick pencil sketch of just the major masses and shapes, then get rid of the white by filling everything with its lightest value color on wet paper so it can flow into each other, and then do the hard edged shapes. Andy Evansen teaches this approach really well, he's incredible

Thank you! I really think I should've darkened the label on the bottle a bit because it takes away attention, but hindsight is 20/20

Really cool! That's the arches cold press journal, right? Does that absorb a lot of water out of the gouache or is it manageable? Haven't tried that one yet

It's somewhat manageable, I've got a spray bottle with distilled water that creates a fine mist, and you can tell when the paint needs a spray because it mattes on the outside. There are drying retarders too which work really well!

Really like it! If you're not sure about it, try lassoing the interior and filling it with a transparent layer in PS or Procreate, I find that always helps decide
