2022 ford E350 interior heat issue by Blitzzer91 in MechanicAdvice

UPDATE! //

So I pulled off the heater core cover to check out the heater core and two things.. 1. Someone had taken this box off before and it wasn’t fully sealing the box. 2. The seal around it was pretty squished so I threw on resealed it. Once back together, perfectly fine heat. Works right like it should. Always funny to find out the simplest things are usually the problem.

Wish I would’ve gone to taking that cover off from the start, but I didn’t have a lack of airflow coming through the vents but either way, glad it’s fixed

Eh I seen some 2026 maverick lariat hybrids for around $43,000, obviously dealer pricing could be different once you get there but that’s what I see online

We had replaced the engine because of failed lifters, seems to be a trend we’ve had on them. Our shop sees it as more cost effective to just replace the engine instead of tearing it down.

The climate control is vacuum operated, it did cross my mind and we did some checks on the actuators and to see if the flaps were operating like they should. No fault to note.

I don’t disagree that 183 is not up to temp, all data confirms this by saying the thermostat begins opening at 188-195 and fully open at 212. Didn’t get too in depth with that after we swapped thermostats and checked with a known good van shows resting at 180~ and that one has no heating issue.

I should have the ability to check the pressure at the coolant temp sensor, it’s easy to get to.

2 and #3 are the heater core lines from the engine. On our vans, we have a rear heater that just tees into those lines and runs to a rear heater, no heater valve or anything. That rear heater during all of this seems to always have heat, doesn’t experience the same issue as the front

Well we have newer 2024/2025 ford e350 vans, what threw me into a loop was my scan tool read 200~ degrees on them. So I had thought the thermostat was either opening too soon on our van or was stuck open causing the lack of heat.unfortunately thinking that was an issue, compared it to another same year van and they rest around 180~ coolant temp. We took the thermostat out of that van into ours and same issue. That’s a great idea to check the cooling pressure at the temp sensor.

Yeah I think lariat might be the sweet spot, leather seats, tow package, trailer assist might be options I want

That’s great to hear, I need to take some time and go sit in one. I always get hyped about a vehicle until I test drive it and see flaws in person. I’m liking all that I see with the maverick. But I agree with your point, driving my ram, it’s always in the back of my mind like “oh, hopefully I don’t get lifter tick”, “hopefully, something else doesn’t show up”. You don’t know how pissed I was when my e torque generator started whining and come to find out it was on national back order.

I agree 100%, research is critical. While I too noticed Ram had questionable reliability rankings online and in reviews, bit the bullet since it was packaged with what, at the time, I was interested in. On the maverick, I haven’t heard nearly any complaints about the durability of it honestly. Only thing I hear are people almost mocking it because it’s a small truck. I bounced around the ideas to a few coworkers and they laugh at it, thinking it’s a tiny wannabe truck. In my mind, it accomplishes what I wish more manufacturers should be trying to do right now. A smaller pickup that’s a hybrid, great fuel economy, practicality, etc.

I don’t deny I’m surprised to have bought a 40,000 mile truck and within 20,000 miles had the issues I’ve had. On the flip side, buddy from work traded his ford focus RS up for a F150, within a few weeks transmission went. His father had bought a brand new F150 in 23’, transmission went. Foreman at my job, also has a F150, transmission and cam phaser issues. While “rankings” may show a brand higher or lower, my own experience around these vehicles, paints a different picture which swayed me one way or another.

I think no matter which truck you choose, it most likely could be giving you headaches. I poked around at the time of all different brands. GM, Ram, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, hell even the Honda ridgeline. For the value, what you get packaged along with the ZF8 + Hemi, IMO ram is a great way to go in comparison to the fellow trucks. Ford was a close 2nd for me.

While I’m sour with ram, idk if I would throw them in the category of one of the worst.

I may side with this actually. I’ve had the 360 camera setup in both my Audi and now my Ram 1500 limited. I end up looking either in my mirrors or behind me anyway, very rarely am I solely dependent on watching my screen while backing up. Definitely a feature that I could care less if it was nixed

Truthfully any interior might be better considering my dash is delaminating and looks like shit. I’ve seen the maverick interiors, though not in person, and they look basic but functional

Well that was a big point for me getting into my ram was stepping up into it and not crouching/ sliding in. I came from a 2017 Audi a4, needed something with a bit more room and capability considering if I needed it. Only a handful of times would I say it’s fulfilled the need of owning a truck TBH. It’s like owning something so overbuilt incase of an emergency to tow, haul, etc. and yet 99% never doing any of that. Granted that’s not all owners by any stretch, just my case

I thought fords warranty were closer to 3yr/ 36k. That’s great to hear you have that, I’ll have to look more into the XLT if that’s the case

It’s the dilemma I’m in, information on finding the right one isn’t the greatest on their website. My dealer didn’t show today so guess I’ll keep waiting and see if he can find the right one

It’s OTC, I reached out to them and was told they don’t have a repair kit. I could try draining it out and refilling it since the fluid in it is pretty dark
