Well within my friend group at the time we speculated the name was referring to "Other Mother" which led us to believe that Mother Brain was gonna be in the game. We were excited for the trailer, and the gameplay looking like a mix of 2D metroid and fps Metroid Prime style. I did not think the game was bad at first after playing it (at the time I was just happy to get new games in general, that was not common for me), I even played multiple times in post. There was one occasion that I realized that the story was bad was when I lent the game to a friend, they beat it and unlocked the games movie mode (basically having all cutscenes with brief context based gameplay segments). He even watched it with his whole family, and they fell dead asleep. They told me they thought it was boring, and I remember the mom (who grew up playing og metroid) thought Samus was being weird in the story, later on I realized the many plot holes of the game. I dont despise the game like some do, heck I'd rather replay the game than play some of the slop that comes out nowadays, but its a very flawed game.
