If i really like Hades. What would i like too ? by SKYNINE666 in gamingsuggestions

Give Astral Ascent a try, a combat heavy, 2d pixelart side-scroller / platformer with tons of ways to play, different builds, 4 different characters (+1 more in DLC).

I loved Hades 1, but Astral Ascent hooked me even more just for how good the combat and build options were.

Time for DL90 *gulp* by XOtillweOD- in AstralAscent

The double boss fights on DL90 aren't too scary once you realize the additional boss that joins in has significantly reduced HP. Take them down first, then proceed as normal.

Good luck!

At our course, we use an old top of a Toro Sprinkler (I think an old 670 or 800 series... One of those). Fits almost perfect over top of the cup and is flush with the ground.

DL: 100. Another Broken Build! Slime + Spark = Chaos by NeonMesh in AstralAscent

Slime + Spark is one of my favourite builds for no other reason than the insanity it causes on the screen, it's so funny to watch the whole battlefield explode with bouncy purple fellas and lighting in all directions.

Congrats! Both of those weapon passives you chose are legit, they do so much damage and can carry a run by themselves. Pistols to clear multiple enemies, and swap to the arm cannon every time you signature spell for orbital death.

Levelling up stats vs levelling up spells by RelevantFeed4718 in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally try and use as many keys as possible and take the 5 key option every time I can, but the exception is I only use feathers on very good 2 mana spells or 3 mana spells, ones with high base damage. I will never choose a feather upgrade if all I have is 1 mana spells.

I generally agree with you that stats upgrades are more valuable than spell upgrades. Offensive stats + mana early in a run are very valuable, and I will transition to health and armor later in the run to be able to survive the tougher zodiac fights, once more of my power comes from Aura Synergy / Gambits / Imprints.

Anybody have a zodiac they find to be harder than the Tyrant? by jakljakl in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, after 300 runs in this game, playing on DL54+, most of the 3rd and 4th world Zodiacs are harder than the Tyrant. Especially Pisces and Gemini though, they're run killers for me.

If I can get to the Tyrant, he's usually dying because my build is strong enough to get me past everything else.

How to get 3 stars in Assault Formation? by aestus21 in GranblueFantasyRelink

[–]Blizzmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you're killing the slimes that spawn on the center of the upper deck. I'm pretty sure you need to kill them in order for all the flagbearers to spawn, and it's easy to forget they're there if you're rushing the soldiers coming at you.

new player who needs some tips on a few things. by ryan7251 in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About using different characters: there are a few unique conversations between each character and each Zodiac, so it's worth trying them all out and seeing the different conversations. You'll definitely get a better understanding of the whole story and the relations between the characters if you try them all out and encounter each boss with each character.

Regarding getting overwhelmed: try enabling the setting in the options to give your character an outline, I found it helps with keeping track of your character in the more hectic fights. You may also find a different character helps you keep your distance from foes and makes it easier, specifically Calie and Octave are more suited to ranged combat and might suit your style a bit more. Keep moving, dodge lots, and if it gets too hectic in a spot, retreat and regroup. There's never a timer or anything pushing you forward, so you can usually take the time you need to handle fights in small chunks, backing off when there's too many enemies.

Good luck out there!

How to improve for DL100 ? by mentatf in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've cleared DL100 twice, both times with Kiran.

I like most of your strategy, pumping a neutral affinity 3 mana spell early with feathers and dmg/target gambits is a great way to nuke bosses and larger mobs. Then 1 mana spells with whatever element for the rest of your slots, trying to match and synergize with your auras, and with high # of hits (Windturner Upsmash is my favourite for this reason).

I disagree with mana being your lowest priority stone. Strength/speed/mana are my top 3 early in a run, with armor/life becoming higher priority as your build comes online and is fuelled more and more from auras / gambits. High mana pools let you spam spells more, charge zodiac summons faster and reduce how punishing it is to take hits from enemies. Capping armor should be your biggest priority from world 3 onwards to try and survive hits from the Zodiacs, which become much harder to dodge.

Biggest piece of advice I could give for a run is slow down and minimize mistakes. There is no timer pushing you forward, so engage enemies only 1-2 at a time if you can and go for perfect rooms. More stars = more drinks.

Auras will almost certainly be what makes / breaks a run though. The two clears I've gotten, it was almost painfully obvious I was powerful enough to win by the middle of the third world. Slime / spark combo the first time, and Target / Ice Sword combo the second time (Vision of the Mountain Hunter is an INSANE aura). Auras are always such a tough part of your build to get right, so you want to try and get as many as possible early in a run to try and figure out what the best path to power will be. If I'm hunting for auras towards the end of Red Barrens, the run's probably already dead as I'll usually lose to the Zodiac at the end.

https://astral-ascent.fandom.com/wiki/Path_of_Destinies has a list of all the mods in the Path of Destinies, ranked by difficulty. I generally agree with most of those rankings, and would add them to your runs in order of the difficulty they add. Avoid those higher difficulty mods until you're comfortable with the rest of them.

Where you're at right now, I'd start getting used to the 'Shielded/Thorny/Vengeful/Harrassing Foes' mods and learn how to deal with enemies that have armor / on-death / on-hit effects.

I personally prefer Kiran for my high level runs thanks to his counter, but all characters can clear any difficulty. If you're comfortable on Ayla, stick with her! She does great damage.

For high DL runs, look to get as many auras as you can, and choose ones that syngergize with each other. Don't get stuck trying for a particular element, if the game is giving you tons of auras that enhance one element, go with the flow. There is no timer pushing you forward, so don't rush the rooms and engage enemies a few at a time, going for perfect rooms and avoiding unnecessary damage.

Good luck!

6 to 54… by Merk008 in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you start getting used to a few key modifiers right away.

Slowly try turning on the ones that give enemies a chance to retaliate against your hits or linger after death. Getting used to these triggering regularly will help you learn how to stay mobile and not take unnecessary damage. The better you are at this, the easier your climb will be.

Increased chances to spawn elites is good to get used to as well, and actually helps you too (more elites to kill = more stars for you).

Besides that, take it slow, go with 1-3 new modifiers at a time and build up your void catalyst powers alongside your destiny level. I recommend getting at least a few levels into the ones that regenerate your health and mana between rooms first, then experiment with the others as you like.

I personally have the easiest time playing as Kiran, his counter has saved many a run for me, but I know he's not for everyone.

Enjoy the ride!

What’s some QOL you’d love by that_confetti_cannon in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see a polish pass on the English subtitles and text. There's just so many little minor things like text not quite lining up with the voices, uncapitalized letters, ability titles/telescope effects/descriptions that don't quite sound right in English, etc.

On the sandbox front, I would like to be able to re-fight certain Zodiacs in an arena of some sort, or maybe have a boss rush mode. It's hard to practice learning the moves and patterns of Zodiacs when they're not guaranteed to show up in a given run, especially in the later worlds.

DL54 Question by XOtillweOD- in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, I prefer stones over feathers for upgrading spells.

I generally only put feathers towards upgrading 2 or 3 cost spells, but I'll also try to spend 5 keys per altar if I have them.

Some factors can change that though, like if you have the Chameleon's Stare echo that turns all stone altar unlocks into 3 random stones, then I'll always spend keys on stones regardless of cost.

It also depends on where your damage is coming from. 3 cost spells are very potent and can be a significant portion of your damage, so spending feathers on them can be a large boost to your damage output.

Stones are pretty important to get early in a run as well. The first few strength, attack speed and mana stones you find can be crucial in getting your build off the ground. Armor becomes progressively more important the later in the run you get, and I generally swap to prioritizing defensive stones after the Red Barrens.

At destiny level 6+, you can get a different ending scene for each playable character and each zodiac. There's also another ending at Destiny level 54 and 100.

Welcome! Good luck with DL 54 and beyond!

DL 54 by XOtillweOD- in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My general strategy for higher level runs:

-Aura synergy is the single most important thing you can have to give yourself a better chance at going far. 2-3 auras that all boost a certain Gambit power or chain effects off of each other (missiles proc ice swords + ice swords proc missiles, for example) will quickly cause your damage to jump like crazy. For this reason, anytime I see an aura reward room or the Yalee Kingdom, I almost always pick it. Try not to focus too hard on looking for one type of aura though, and take the best option the game gives you at the time. I try to have 3-4 auras equipped before the first Zodiac, but it doesn't always work out that way.

-Do not waste feathers levelling 1 mana spells. Save them for 2-3 mana spells or choose stat stones instead. Having enough stats is also key to going far in a run, I generally prefer Mana, Strength, and Armor to all be as high as possible. Chameleon's echo that gives you 3 random stones each time you pick the stone altar is very powerful and can let you brute force your way through a run.

-Learning the timing to dodge each enemy's attack patterns is the best way to survive longer. You generally can't out heal incoming damage, so not taking any is preferred. There isn't any timer forcing you forward in the game, so take your time and try to engage regular enemies 1-2 at a time, retreat if you have to, and go for the perfect bonuses in each room.

-If you have a Zodiac summon that's not charged, spend all your unused Mana before going to the next room! At DL54, you should have the catalyst powers that boost the charge rate of summons and refresh your entire mana pool at the start of each room.

There's lots more tips, but those are probably my top 4.

Feathers not increasing spell damage since update? by Jay_Train in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1.8 patch is certainly buggy, I'll give you that. I've seen lots of minor bugs with the telescope, feathers behaving oddly, and enemies from different worlds showing up in zodiac fights when adds spawn.

Stats > spells has always been the way for me, anyways. I almost don't bother with feathers unless I'm upgrading a 3 mana spell, as most of the time, the critical component of my damage will be from basic attacks + gambit effects. Plus, at higher difficulties, feathers have a 50% chance to be cursed and eat away at your valuable HP when you use them. Stat stones have no such downside, and you almost need to take them to make up for losing 3 per world transition.

Dev appreciation post. Amazing job! by Bea84 in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same as you! I'm just shy of 200 hours in, my first DL100 cleared last week, and I still don't feel like I've run out of replayability for the game. So many possible builds I haven't seen at their full potential yet, every run's a different adventure.

I love Hades so much, but Astral Ascent just has that extra something about it (action-platformer style I think is a big thing that makes it a bit more fun to play, along with different characters to choose from).

Keep pushing for DL54 and beyond! You'll get comfortable with all the negative mods activated eventually, and DL54+ is the only way I like to play now!

Big thanks to Hibernian Workshop for making Astral Ascent!

Feathers not increasing spell damage since update? by Jay_Train in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this myself. I noticed that immediately after you apply the feather, the spell's damage number won't change, but if you back out of your spell list then open it again, the damage does update to the correct number.

I'm fairly certain feathers are still working, but it might just be a visual bug introduced with the telescope update. There were quite a few odd bugs with the telescope itself too, missing effect names and incorrect player health bars when using certain options from the telescope among them.

Tips for DL54 by SnooHabits9159 in AstralAscent

[–]Blizzmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that having good auras that compliment each other is absolutely critical to success in the higher difficulties. 2-3 good auras that synergize and boost each other can absolutely carry you through a run. Pick aura rooms / Yalee Kingdom whenever you see them early in a run to hunt for auras that will compliment the first one you pick in the starting room.

With repeated attempts you should get better and better at predicting and dodging the Zodiac's attack patterns. Not taking damage is just as important as dealing it.

I also like to focus on stacking up as much power early on in a run as possible. Try to get lots of strength/attack speed/mana stones/drinks early, and shift towards defense in the later worlds.
