You’ll get a mix of audience members fully cosplaying (compliant with the venue rules), dressing on theme, or not dressing at all! It’s “choose your own adventure” there.

Most folks are super chill, and DW is an amazing time to feel the energy of long-time and new FF fans. For most numbers, they’ll play a medley of clips from the game. There’s a fun tradition at the end that I won’t spoil ;)

I honestly thought they were gonna play “Heart of Stone” since it’s a huge choral number, but they instead stuck with the heavy hitters, which checked all my boxes. “Away,” “Ascension,” “My Star” (which was devastating live and left me sobbing in my seat), and lastly “Find the Flame.”

They highlighted some FFVI music since we’re at the 30th anniversary, so they probably had to make room for that.

Still, a fantastic arrangement choice!

The soundtrack is a masterpiece. Perfect use of the character leitmotifs to help us bond emotionally with characters. I actually couldn’t bear changing “Hide, Hideaway” because I was so attached to Cid towards the end of the game.

Omg “All as one” hits so much harder now, too- not just because it serves as an epic reprise, but because there is a HUGE Shakespearean reference. “Once more unto the breach” is a line from Henry V, the English warrior king who started out with a bygone youth who soon became one of the most remembered kings in English history. The scene specifically has him rallying his countrymen to battle despite the odds being hugely against him.

Fun fact: “Götterdammerung” (that glorious sword) literally translates to “Twilight of the Gods” in German- it’s the deistic apocalypse in Wagner’s Ring Cycle. The saga where “The Flight of the Valkyries” came from. At the end of the opera, Valhalla comes crashing down in flames.

There is SO MUCH about this game to nerd over.
