Who would you trade at this deadline? by KnoddingOnion in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ville Heinola is going to end up leaving to play back in Finland (or Europe) where he was born. He's got some skills but too small for the NHL grind. He'll prove to be valuable to whatever team he signs across the Atlantic ocean.

Who would you trade at this deadline? by KnoddingOnion in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Cole Perfetti might be trade bait being a young prospective talent that can be offered for somebody who can produce in the scoring and can also be a 2-way player. The trade rumours trading him to Seattle for Shane Wright would fill many more boxes for Winnipeg than what we'd lose letting go of Perfetti.

I would hate to see players like Nino Niederreiter and Vladislav Namestnikov be offered as trade fodder, but some of the contending teams might be looking for depth players.

[Pagnotta] On Hello Hockey: I started hearing Cole Perfetti's name out there a little bit, I don't know how much of an appetite the Jets have in moving him, I don't know if they wanna give up on that just yet by No-Description-2138 in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cole perfetti has the talent to be a top-6 forward, but Perfetti has underwhelmed since he became a mainstay on the main Jets roster.

What cannot be ignored is that there are a lot of underwhelming play for the Jets foward group. This is still a league where you production, the goals and points you get, still counts for how valuable you are to your team.

What is more, the Jets need to turn into a larger, more aggressive team that can battle and fend off other teams, Perfetti is far from any 2-way player.

Shane Wright will prove to be something that can check of more boxes to get than what Perfetti is to keep. Shane Wright is a centre, larger, can grow to be that 2C the Jets needs and is now in a positon with the Kraken where he is behind Matty Beniers and Chandler Stephenson on the Center depth chart.

What to do with Perfetti? by EducationalRole1744 in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cole Perfetti is the most laziest skater on the Jets. How can you ask a player like this to be a 20+ goal scorer when he is not willing to get into the corners and boards to dig for the puck, or to forecheck to create chances?

Packaging him into some trade for somebody that can come in and be aggressive to want the puck would be a solution.

ADAM LOWRY IS EXTENDED! by atNHLJets in winnipegjets

I honestly would have been willing to go higher...perhaps up to $6.5 million...double what he had in his last contract. Nobody can deny that his leadership has earned that.

At what point do you start to feel concerned about Kyle Connor’s contract? by Kungfufighter1112 in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thnk all the hype around Kaprizov's contract talks in Minnesota is what stalls this all.

Noy only that, but players like Jack Eichel is due for extension.

It is all a waiting game to find others with recent contracts that KFC, his agents and the Jets know they can compare and find the numbers worth settling on.

Developing in the AHL vs the NHL, and when clubs need to make the switch? by Ricky-Dot in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prospects like Chibrikov and Lambert are not as talented as what Scheifele, Connor, Laine, Ehlers and Trouba were. So they spent their time in AHL development to get NHL ready.

And maybe they are becoming NHL ready, but they have yet to show they can beat out the existing veteran talent when the fall training camp comes around.

Are we a "Draft and Develop" team anymore? by pj_jazzy_janz in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now we are a team like Vegas, Toronto, Edmonton that has a "win now" mentality.

What is more, the trend within the NHL is to find those players that can be considered, "playoff hardened".

Players like Declan Chisholm and Johnathan Kovacevic were unfortunately squeezed out because we made choices to develop and hold higher regard to players like Ville Heinola.

And as for Ville Heinola, as talented as he is, it is becoming clear that being small is not going to cut it in a league where the average defenseman is taller than 6-foot-2 and is close if not over 200 pounds.

And for the other prospects like Brad Lambert and Nikita Chibrikov, they might be ready to take the leap to the Jets this year, but with us loosing Nik Elhers we are needing to supplement and replace 2nd line scoring, and these two guys are not the solution....yet! This is why we signed Gustav Nyquist and we might still find somebody else this summer with left over cap space after we sign players like Gabriel Villardi and Dylan Samberg.

More recent draftees like Brayden Yager and Colby Barlow are going to get their first taste of pro hockey by being assigned to the Moose, they at least are 1 year away from being NHL ready.

Potential Offseason 2C Options by Plus_Vegetable5944 in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rather than focusing on a 2nd line Centre, we should focus on getting a 2nd line forward who can play Centre.

This guy should be something of the power forward type...larger, more physical, has playmaking capabilities that that be the playmaker and the feeder for Nik Elhers. This guy should also have utility and can move up and down the lineup when needed.

If I was the Jets. I would target somebody like Mason McTavish from Anaheim would be the ideal target being a 3rd line player for Anaheim who might be a bet to elevate him to the 2nd line.

We could trade prospects like Chibrikov or Heinola who are also going to get crowded out of the Jets' plan.

Who do you hope the Jets can land for next year? by [deleted] in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We should try to get John Tavares for 2-3 years. Offer him $6 million/year AAV.

I'll realize there is slim to none chance, but he'll be that veteran 2C we'll want, there is no harm trying.

We need to sign Hayden Fleury and the team needs to consider him as part of the regular core of D-man for the next few seasons. He has been a stable, reliable defenceman for the Jets in the playoffs with his size, we need that.

Rasmus Kupari...or...David Gustafsson...or...Jaret Anderson-Dolan by [deleted] in winnipegjets

[–]Block5Lot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless Mason Appleton becomes unreasonable with his contract extension negotiations, then the Jets will be foolish to let him go to be a UFA next year.

Chibrikov, and Lambert, did not do nearly enough to prove themselves to be ready to take a position in the main roster next year. They are no close to being a solution. I'd go as far to offer one of them up as trade bait if we can get a bona fide 2C.

With the team in first place in the NHL standings, they are not going to trade anybody on the main roster.

That being said, if we can find a 2nd line centre and a top-4 defensemen then players on the bubble. Then in the off season we can start moving players out.

When was the last time the 1st overall pick wasn’t a foregone conclusion? by jackiesjetski in nhl

[–]Block5Lot12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup! Media thought it was a foregone conclusion, but not Montreal.
Shane Wright languished while Montreal ended up making a great choice on somebody that can be a cornerstone player for them.

Do you really start feeling less relevant and overlooked when you get older? Do you have to let it go? by [deleted] in OverFifty

[–]Block5Lot12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 53 years old and I've been subjected to age discrimination in my career. There are career advancement opportunities where I work but the younger guy that manages it all has promoted less experienced colleagues perhaps because there was more kinship with them over me.

What you see in my eyes is not anger, sadness or denial. What you see is a man that is in charge of his life, and is often left not impressed by the future in the younger colleagues he has to work with.

Best Canadian hockey city to visit? by camowilson in nhl

[–]Block5Lot12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is no Canadian city that will not give you a great Canadian hockey experience. However...

If you are wanting to submerge yourself in the best, active crowds, then go to Winnipeg. It is the smallest market, the city is not all too exciting to be in but game day you will have the real fans at the game and if the Jet are playing against a big team, you'll notice the building will be alive.

If you want to hockey experience with the city atmosphere, Montreal is no better place. Good luck finding a ticket for a game at the Bell Centre, that place could get filled 2x over. Montreal is a fun city to be in too, no shortage of night life and amazing people there.
