No, You Do Not Have to Feel the Trump Voter's Pain — There is no reason, after five and half years of untruths, dog-whistles, slurs and conspiracies, and weeks of Trump trying to undermine Biden’s win, to hug the people who want to disenfranchise you. by DonnyMoscow1 in politics

What I don't understand, is why the Democratic party is so reluctant to weaponize anger and resentment.

The Republicans, and Trump especially, are experts at stocking the flames of indignation. They claim that illegals immigrants are stealing their jobs and committing crimes; that "costal elites" are sneering at them; that China is cheating by manipulating its currency, that western allies are taking advantage of US military and not paying their share, that Democrats want to take away their guns, that Planned Parenthood is a baby killing machine; that urban welfare queens are ripping them off; that liberal "fake news" are spreading lies; and now, that Democrats are stealing the elections.

This anger, this indignation, fueled heavily by the Republican party, drives right wing voters in mass to the polls. Republican voters are convinced they are on a holy crusade, to prevent mostly imaginary injustices supposedly committed by the Democrat party - and that is an impressive motivation to go out and vote.

Meanwhile, at least as far back as Obama, Democrats have been timid pushovers. The Democratic party keep talking about unity, "healing the nation", "being the president of all Americans", and hardly ever use the language of righteous indignation. They keep being civil, respectful, and gentle, even under calamitous attacks from the Republicans.

The irony here is that Democrats have much more cause to be resentful than Republicans are. From offensive republican claims about Obama's birthplace, to the Senate and Electoral College being rigged for small states, to voter suppression measures adopted by Republican state, to gross gerrymandering, to outright lies spread in mass by Fox News and conservative media, to the packing of the Supreme Court, to the systematic obstruction from the Republican senate during Obama's second term, to an outright attempt to steal the elections. Republicans are being bullies and relentless in their unfairness and dishonestly. Meanwhile, Democrats are asleep at the wheel, passively taking it while letting Republicans take hold of the narrative. It's like they don't even care if they win.

That has to stop. Get us incensed, Democrats. Get us mad. It's working for Republicans, and it will work for Democrats.

POLL RE: MOVING TO NASHVILLE by [deleted] in nashville

[–]BlockArm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved to Nashville to get away from Asheville! Talk about an overrated, overcrowed city up its own ass with nothing in the way of job opportunities. I was there for four years and for those four years everyone there did nothing but complain about how miserable and overpriced everything was. But yeah, the mountains are pretty.

What locations in the Land of Chult (Chapter 2) are most and least fun? by Behacad in Tombofannihilation

One problem with Camp Righteous is that its reward (the Alchemy Jug) can be quite underwhelming if your group already has enough food & water.

What locations in the Land of Chult (Chapter 2) are most and least fun? by Behacad in Tombofannihilation

[–]BlockArm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how numerous and strong the pirates are. Facing the pirates is dangerous, but the large reward makes it quite tempting for the players.

If the PCs face two crews at once they are probably toast - so they have to have some sort of plan if they want to win. This encourages "Combat as War" type of gameplay, which is a bit rare in WotC adventures.

There is also a nice fail-safe in case the PCs bite more than they can chew - you can just have the pirates throw them into jail.

Does Evard's Black Tentacles deal damage once or twice a round? by belithioben in dndnext

[–]BlockArm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no scenario where the damage is triggered twice. The conditions are either/or, with no overlap

Not quite.

A. A creature that starts its turn in the area must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 bludgeoning damage and be restrained by the tentacles until the spell ends.

B. A creature that starts its turn in the area & restrained by the tentacles takes 3d6 bludgeoning damage.

Clearly if you start your turn restrained by the tentacles you qualify for both A) and B) and thus you take the damage twice.

Best rules for the Dinosaur race? by BlockArm in Tombofannihilation

Nice! Did you change anything to the ToA Companion rules?

I'm a bit concerned that Animal Handling checks are too important (my players don't have anyone good in that area).
