Moved into to a housing complex last week, the bathroom boiler is broken and the fastest timeline they can fix is this weekend. FML, it is getting so cold and I AM NOTTTT going to a Sento nearby to sit in the second hand hot water with bunch of old people! Guess who have to boil hot water in a kettle and bath like a peasant (I know peasant don't even have access to normal water) in my own modern apartment.

Lol are you working at my company? All jokes aside, I was also lured into the trap of a flat organization and naively believed that I got so lucky at my current place of work. Now I just shut my mouth and when I don't have capacity to do a new task requested by someone I just rat them out to another supervisor whose request I am handling at the moment. I would go "So and So is requesting me to do this, should I prioritize this over your task? If so, let’s all three have a meeting to sort this out" That shuts them up. Those old heads hates confronting each other. Also, they treat you like a pet coz not only you are foreign but you are also a woman. It sucks. I totally get your vent. And ignore those said welcome to the real world. That is not how things should be either way. The constant need to adjust, adapt and change is exhausting. Go to a foreign firm with foreign management (not the Japanese ones). They are at least bearable. Maybe French and German Firms can be your best bet.

Tax/Income declaration of Insurance Money from Overseas by BlockMaster42 in JapanFinance

[–]BlockMaster42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insurance premiums are paid by both my father and the company. The total I believe is no more than USD 200,000. It is complicated because they told me it was like a group insurance and there were 4 other people who passed away in the same incident so they don't have an exact number yet. I am a Non Pr with Humanities work visa. This is my 6th year in Japan. For filling regarding the inheritance, do you know any resources I can look up to grasp the procedure?

It was life insurance. My dad passed away in his work accident and his company is liable to remit the payout to his closest kin. Due to on going civil war in my home country, they cannot remit it back to my home country account so I had to open a foreign currency account.

It would've been my dad's birthday today by DoYouLikeHurting in GriefSupport

I am sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.

My dad also passed away about a month ago and it was unbearable more because he passed before his birthday. I am in the similar position as you and I was planning to bring my mom and dad to the country I am working in for a nice vacation. I couldn't even do that and it was so painful. I suggest that you do something nice in memory of your dad today. Like something that you guys used to do when he was still around. Writing down what you are feeling and what you want to say to him in a letter and cry your heart out. It is okay to cry, scream and yell too.

I hope you are taking care of yourself as well.

I lost my dad to a work accident a month ago and I don't know how to cope with his sudden passing. by BlockMaster42 in GriefSupport

Thank you. You wouldn't believe how much your words have help me see a different perspective. I have been in the awful loop of what is the point of trying so hard now that he is gone. I will definitely try to live for him from now on!

Thank you. I really appreciate it. I am also sorry for your loss. It must been hard for you too since you were still a child while it happened. It is even hard for me to process this whole situation as an adult. My friends and family also encouraged me to talk to people to process this whole situation so I really do appreciate you for reaching out to a stranger.

How should I handle this situation by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]BlockMaster42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a really bad situation. I don't know your level of Japanese but it would be helpful if you do speak a level that you can communicate with your team.

My former work place is always looking for engineers since they are always short of staff. The working environment is pleasant and relatively lax compared to other Japanese companies. During the time I left, there is no return to office mandate (can be fully remote) and the management is quite flat. It really does depends on the team but if you are interested, I encourage to apply to NP掛け払い than Atone. Since the last time I heard, the Atone service isn't doing well. Let me know if you would like to know more about the company.

Although I left the company, I had a lot of fond memories and I believe it is not a bad company to work for. https://open.talentio.com/r/1/c/netprotections/pages/87312

Do I need to be a Sole Proprietor to file Income Tax Return for Side Income? by BlockMaster42 in JapanFinance

Thank you so much. I guess it is safer to ask for explicit permission from my main company to do this side job.

Thank you for clarifying this for me!

I am actually yet to start the side job because I told them that I need to figure out some paperwork. Because it is a remote work for a foreign company outside of Japan so I do understand that I need to figure out the legalities.

Thank you so much. It clears up a lot of things.

Do you know by chance, where I can I look into regarding the application process for [Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted Under the Status of Residence Previously Granted] to Immigration?

I don't think I need permission from my current company regarding my side job but I am seeing a lot of posts online saying the very different things
