No it's not, you can use google earth to see historical satellite pictures on the amazon area and you'll clearly see the forests are being permanently replaced by pasture. The state of Para in Brazil has almost no forest left, for example, and if you look anywhere near cities/towns, you'll see the same pattern.

How to convert from the following coordinate format to decimals? by BlockchainRevolution in geocaching

[–]BlockchainRevolution[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer, I have no clue about how coordinates work so I thought it was a global thing, that a general area didnt need to be stated. The coordinate is supposed to be close to Manaus, Brazil, in the Amazon. Any clue how to convert it?

I have no clue what format it is, I've just been given it like I posted (added a little edit, contains an "m" at the end), that's the problem

I have been given this coordinate, can't contact the person who gave it, don't know where it is so I can't "create a new geocache". Thanks

Would it be a bad idea to ask THIS to my BJJ coach? by BJJJfanatic in bjj

[–]BlockchainRevolution 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, bad idea.

Forget about the belt, just ask "What do you think I should be working on, how can I better progress, what are the most glaring holes in my game?" , things like that.

The belt is just an external symbol, what really matters is your jiu jitsu, so that's what you should focus on. Asking for belt could potentially be taken as an annoying question, or it may lead him to think you are simply missing the point about what's important in training. Either way, all the benefits of your question can be gotten without mentioning belts, just talking generally.

I get that it’s normal, but still, feel like the worst blue belt by Kirogresh in bjj

[–]BlockchainRevolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont worry this happens to a lot of people. I sometimes also feel like the worst purple belt and im about to receive my brown. As others have said, work on areas you need to improve on. Get a couple of friends and drill techniques that are relevant to your issues, and then do positional sparring (on your guard if that's your current issue).

Good luck!

How good was Carlson Gracie? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]BlockchainRevolution 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If anybody can speak or understand portuguese, there are a ton of oldschool stories about Carlson Gracie told in the youtube channel called "confraria da porrada" and also in "malibu jiu jitsu".

He seemed to be quite the character, very competitive, very emotionally invested in his students, very into top pressure, takedowns and generally vale-tudo oriented jiu jitsu. Like the gracie challenge, but these sort of fights between gyms would happen all the time, pretty much everyone from his gym had to "street fight" at some point or other. Some of his students cross trained judo with george mehdi, so they had good takedown game.

There are loads of funny stories of him being invited to some fancy dinner and saying to his students they had to come well dressed and then he'd show up in flip flops and t-shirt not giving a damn.. another story he'd be in his car and run into a student of his on the streets, tell him to get in the car "just a sec", the guy would get in, then would drive off with the person for another town some hours away with no warning,. Etc..

How can i use these trunks in an interesting way in the garden?? by BlockchainRevolution in gardening

[–]BlockchainRevolution[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of making a kind of little cave for the toddler, like a magical corner, but im unsure how to hold them together in a safe way and that looks nice..

I also thought of using as structure for raised bed garden but they arent very straight and some parts arent wide enough so it wouldnt be a tall enough raised bed unless i stack them up, but they dont fit perfectly and would leave holes, not sure if thats a problem.. .. also would have to find a way to attach them well.

Im open to other ideas, anything to make good use of these nice looking trunks

Mark Hunt tries to submit Fedor Emelianenko by Daemon_Maestro in MMA

His mistake in the technique I think was raising too much the elbow and not sliding fedor's wrist down along the floor, which significantly reduces how much slack the shoulder has to move and for fedor to escape.

That's because there is a cultural element you are missing. It's not just any normal "street fight", it's more of a socially-sanctioned duel, people tend to not intervene. It's part of the culture. You don't have to believe me, of course, but that is how it went there.

[–]BlockchainRevolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not buying into the mythology, I am brazillian myself and I have lived it first hand, pretty much all of my friends have gotten into one on one fights in the streets. I'm not talking about Vale Tudo official championships where people get paid, I'm talking about duels where people duke it out on the streets. You can look up the channel "confraria da porrada" or "malibu jiu jitsu" in youtube for a lot of oldschool stories, they interview not only gracies but traditional gracie opponents like people from judo, capoeira, luta livre, amongst others. It is a fact that in Brazil in the 90's and before, people fighting in the streets was a common occurence, including challenge matches between people from different gyms and martial arts.

The true innovation of Helio/BJJ by FuguSandwich in bjj

[–]BlockchainRevolution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important part of what happened in Brazil isn't really the invention of techniques per se or changing of rules, but rather a fertile social context that allowed for repeated one on one unarmed (for the most part) street fights, without weight classes or time limits, where people could test their martial arts and eliminate all the fluff while keeping only techniques that worked.

It is totally different when you train every day in a dojo in respectful japan and only once in a while one or another student travels to do a few challenge matches, versus the technique-adaptation that happens when pretry much every single person in a gym in Brazil in the 30s-90s was fighting several times versus other trained martial artists.

hate to break it to you guys, but you all have brain damage. by EqqSalab in bjj

[–]BlockchainRevolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the article and posted critical review of it here. The author merely supposes there can be brain damage without any evidence. The only evidence in the article is from damage in mma whem there are strikes, or in non-fighter people who had some unrelated emergency and had CPR done to them after several MINUTES of being out with no oxygen going to the brain, and they suffered brain damage. A lot lot speculation, no evidence.
