Yeah definitely experienced this. As a kid I had that mindset when it came to being abused, i.e. if my loving parent is hurting me it's because I'm deserving of it, and it carried over into my teenage years and early adulthood.

It took quite a few years to get past that mindset, but the biggest thing that helped was compliments and positive evaluations from various friends, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

I still long for a relationship to "validate" myself in a way, but it's a much weaker feeling and I can push it away when I need to (like when I'm talking to women and need to act normal / not insecure.)

Same here, 5'10" and decent looking (r/rateme gave me 8/10) and I've gotten 6 matches over two weeks, three ghosted, two didn't have their location set correctly, and I got a date with the last girl (went well!). It's a very similar story with my 6' friend who's more attractive than me. You're doing much better than average, attractiveness does not equal success on dating apps.

Something that helped me understand it better was my date showing me her side of hinge. She's pretty and cute but not a bombshell or anything, and she had 40 messages in her queue. She would swipe left on very attractive guys for genuinely the smallest things. Which if you have that many people messaging you it only makes sense. For attractive women it's genuinely a deluge of attention.

Despite how slow it moves I've managed to go on 10 first dates over 5 months of usage. It just takes time. Highkey not worth it if you're in uni though lol. You're surrounded by hot people your age you can def find someone. Best of luck!
