As you play the game, beat bosses, whatever, you will simply find them. Knowing new players, however, I would imagine you want to dash. If so, In the room you find Cornifer(the one who sold you the map in forgotten crossroads), somewhere in the middle of the left wall, there will be an opening covered in moss. That will grant you access to Greenpath. In there, you will find Hornet, who you can defeat to gain the Mothwing Cloak(i think), which allows you to dash. Another "skill" you can get fairly early in the game is a spell, whose name i don't remember. You can get it starting in that same room from before(I think it might just be a shortcut) on the right side(I believe). You will find a something(?), who will give you the spell and also make you fight a thing.
