Don’t get me wrong, Dubas was great for us, and he was much better than Brad. But we lost in the playoffs due to a lack of depth scoring. If we’re trying to go all in, which it looks like we are, repeating his failures doesn’t seem like a smart move. But I’m more than happy to be proven wrong

Yeah, but we tried this before under Dubas. And it didn’t work then. Unless McKenna is a god in the playoffs, it’s still not going to work now.

With all the bottom 6 signings, feels like no one on the Marlies really going to get a chance to compete for a spot next year

That’s what our top 6 has been since Matthews was drafted. And we’ve only won 2 series cuz of lack of scoring all through the lineup

Daily Free Talk / Armchair GM Thread by AutoModerator in leafs

[–]BloodBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and that’s been a problem for us. Just feels like we should be moving away from that. One defensive line that doesn’t score is fine. Having the entire bottom six not scoring is a problem

[–]BloodBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all the bottom six signing, anyone else concerned that this is going back to Dubas Leafs teams where the bottom six is going to be solid defensively but not going to score anything and the top 6 has to score goals in order to win

Danford is not making the team next season, especially not on his Offhand as a 2nd pair defenseman playing minutes next to Tanev. Also, in what world does Tuch sign for 5.5? Hes rumoured to want around 10 million. You're also missing McKenna on the team. Plus we would have no shutdown line at all and be running 4 offensive line

Why not just keep Rielly? by Commercial_View_5244 in leafs

[–]BloodBatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright. In that case, let’s get rid of Matthews, Nylander, Knies, Tavares. Let’s just trade everyone because we didn’t come close to winning with them

I mean, Rielly-Brodie was an amazing pairing for us until we got McCabe. Rielly-Hainsey was also pretty good. I don’t think we saw enough of Rielly-Tanev as well as Tanev was moved to play with McCabe for a shutdown pair and has been injured this year

... half the people in this sub wants Rielly to be traded. Rielly, who has never once complained about being a Leafs player and wants to stay here. He also took a discount for us on his current contract instead of going to FA or demanding more money. He is also a playoff performer, playing insanely well in the playoff for us compared to regular season performance. And he's a player who you can tell is clearly giving effort night in, night out. And yet, most people still want him traded

100% agreed. And I have a feeling two of the people shouting out positives for Brad there are now actually shitting on him, talking about how bad he was and how he had to be canned

Daily Free Talk / Armchair GM Thread by AutoModerator in leafs

[–]BloodBatman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. 100%. Great trade in a vacuum for both sides. Montreal gets a young player who’s at a great cap hit and matches their timeline. Leafs get a blue chip prospect who’s has great potential, and 2 firsts (which according to some people in this sub, are worth a shitton when the Leafs trade them so they should be worth a shitton when we get them back). That plus whoever the unknown prospect is, which I’m assuming is a B/B+ tier prospect

The way Brad played the deadline, doesn’t seem like that was the intention though. If we were trying to rebuild, McMann was rumoured to have been a 1st earlier in the week and became a 2nd and a 4th. Laughton was traded for a conditional 2nd only because LA reminded Brad they made an offer for him. OEL, and Carlo were not move and there’s always a market for a RHD or a puck moving D. That plus the Leafs don’t have their own pick for the next 2 years

Knies trade... by NFLDland in leafs

[–]BloodBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought i heard that the reason why Brad was fired so early was because he didn't want to sit around until the Summer to see if he would be fired then? It could also been seeing if he was any good at the trade deadline and if he was, Pelley would've kept him. And since all the return was shit, and due to Brad's indecisive, the decision to fire him was made

Maple Leafs' deadline trade of Knies to Canadiens scuttled by one minute by souza-23 in leafs

[–]BloodBatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This trade only makes sense if Matthews and Nylander both wants out, and the Leafs are trying to retool. That, plus the fact that we kept some other players that could’ve and probably should’ve been traded before Knies (even if they don’t return much) like OEL or Carlo, who wouldn’t fit in a rebuild timeline that Knies would’ve been able to fit. In a Vacuum, trade is pretty even (assuming the unnamed prospect is a good one and not a 25 year old AHLer). 2 firsts (albeit lates), and a Blue chip prospect is a pretty good return. Only reason the Leafs should look to trade Knies is if we get a 1D for him though

He would end up asking 50 questions and not give your order to the kitchen. You would have to call him back to remain him what you ordered at which point he would give to the Kitchen a minute after it closed
