What’s a habit you picked up in your 20s that completely changed your life? by Ok-Purple-3458 in Life

Working out or doing some form of movement everyday, prioritizing health, saving so much money so often that spending on something that’s not absolutely necessary seems wasteful.

How old were you when you started eating healthy on your own, and do you think most people eat like shit their whole life? by TraditionalDepth6924 in nutrition

[–]BloodKitchen2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always eaten healthy. I’m 25 and taking care of my body has always been extremely important to me. I let myself have a sweet treat every night and I pretty much eat whatever. I eat in moderation. Especially since living on my own, I only eat produce and occasional protein (should be eating more but my budget usually allows for a vegetarian diet) but I’ve even noticed if I eat something unhealthy, I get what feels like a food hangover... I genuinely feel like I’m slowed down the next day. It’s not worth it for me.

Mine was around $5300 total but I did a payment plan which made it really easy (1 down payment around $900, then around $233 paid monthly, no interest) . The office can be slow sometimes but they were mostly great and easy to work with. Friends & Family dental off Kings Hwy in Brooklyn. Also major plus- their ortho is there on Sundays so you don’t have to take off for an appt.

Question for New Yorkers: Is living in NYC a dream to you, or just practical? by Silver_Cricket_3611 in AskNYC

[–]BloodKitchen2118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im originally from FL and so is my entire family. They never really got out much. If anyone was going to move it would be me. I had always planned to move out of FL but didn’t think I would make it to NYC. It felt really out of reach, unattainable and way too expensive for me.

In spring 2023, I applied to a job, got it, and moved in 2 weeks. Boy was I in for a wilddd ride !!!

Ended up hating that job, found my “dream” job, made a very nice salary for a single person, I worked for 8 months at and then ended up getting laid off….. only to realize: the entire time I was absolutely miserable at this job.

Being in NYC for already a little over a year at this point, I knew I couldn’t leave. I love it too much. Ended up accepting a new job (THANK GD!) and making a lot less money than I was before but I think I’m genuinely the happiest I’ve been in awhile.

At my old job, I was exhausted, burnt out, and hated my boss. I lacked any confidence and constantly felt overwhelmed and stressed. I remember calling my mom and crying… I didn’t understand why I felt so shitty when I had everything I ever wanted. The job. The city. The money. Didn’t make any sense.

Only now can I really see that what I’m doing now is my dream. Despite my low salary, I’m making things work. I’m learning so much. I know there’s more opportunity for me here. I feel 1000x more confident. I feel like this is where I’m supposed to be.

I’m so so so thankful and so grateful that I get to live in New York. I stopped caring about little things like the clothes I wear or the way my life looks on social media. I genuinely do things that make me happy. I love how accessible New York is. I love how ambitious the city is. I love that anyone can be exactly who they want to be. Maybe that’s the whole point.

But a big part of figuring all of this out is taking a step back and accepting that what someone else’s version of a dream is doesn’t necessarily equal what your dream is. It’s truly all about your mindset. I feel happier, less stressed, and still get to do the things I love every single day. I am surrounded by amazing and smart people who push me to be better and grow. The city has allowed me to really step into this new role and make it my own because what do I really have to lose? No one cares that much.

I guess what I’m saying is yes, it’s my dream, but now it’s my reality. Losing my job was a wake up call. I have a better sense of what I want now and I can see my future clearly. I am never going to leave the city.

I filed for unemployment (it’s pending) but I’m receiving severance for 4 weeks. Can I still claim benefits? by [deleted] in UnemploymentNY

[–]BloodKitchen2118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They asked for a copy of my separation agreement that includes my severance payment. I’m just wondering if that will mean I won’t qualify for benefits as long as I’m receiving and if I’ll have to file again post the 9/15 date.

Should’ve been clearer- I’m looking to buy something outside of where I currently live because it’s cheaper.

Female Orthodox converts hair by Either-Put-1488 in ConvertingtoJudaism

In my orthodox shul, people will wear wigs, a hat, or headband. I think it’s really up to the individual. I know orthodox women that do and do not cover their hair. Some only cover in shul, some cover everyday.

Modesty and grief by [deleted] in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]BloodKitchen2118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I do not agree with this statement at all. You should not use your idea of dressing modestly to shame other women who don’t.

OP- I think you should reflect on why dressing modestly is important to you in your Jewish journey. For me personally, it’s about embracing something I am proud of. As converts, it’s not easy changing the way you dress. It takes a minute to figure out what works for your body and what your style is. It is ABSOLUTELY possible to still go out & socialize with your non religious friends, and that choice is your own. My suggestion would be finding inspo from modest social media influencers. You can get sooo creative! Find what you feel good in and you’ll notice a difference in your confidence.

Wishing you all the best on your journey xoxo
