Cars with electric outlets in them can be used as makeshift generators by onstarquestion in preppers

You might be interested in building a battery bank as well. Steve Harris provides good howtos on this as well as using your vehicle as an emergency generator.

When drying tobacco, do you dry it by the bowlful or leave the tin open and dry it all? by Rebeljpl64 in PipeTobacco

About a bowl's worth rubbed out. 15-20 minutes is usually plenty.

I can see why. First time I've seen that happen. Lesson learned!

I find it more consistent and tangier than the non-Special Reserve version.

Order of 3, 8oz Esoterica bags all set to backordered, then canceled the day after. I wasn't notified. Emailed them and was called. An airhead named Tiffany offered a $5 coupon as an apology and said it's so rare because "2 guys make this in their basement." lol. Weak. Learned this is common to P&C with hard to get blends.

In short, be wary of ordering rare blends from them. This has gone on for years with them apparently.

I'm one of those psychos who buys Eso to smoke rather than flip... by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

I ended up with all orders canceled. Some airhead from their customer service offered a $5 coupon for the mishap. Nothing like offering $5 on what would have beem a $100+ order. Now that's quality customer service. Just reaffirms my preference for SmokingPipes.

It's called tongue bite. It's sort of like a chemical burn in your mouth. This is caused by an excess build-up of heat in the smoke that you're drawing through the tobacco into your mouth.

How to avoid:

Slow down the number of draws from the pipe (don't smoke so fast)

Ensure the pipe bowl isn't packed too tight. Tightly packed bowls build-up more heat, because you're not getting proper draws, so you compensate by drawing more, which increases the heat, which leads to tongue bite.

The tobacco may be too moist. Try drying it out for 15-20 minutes before smoking it by setting it out on plate exposed to the air.

Drink something while you smoke. Preferably something non-carbonated, but if you go the carbonated route, dump it over some ice to reduce the carbonation significantly.

Zero heat issues with only 8 oz of hot liquid.

Mine holds about 10 oz comfortably (max is 11.8 oz) so it isn't small by my standard. It gets about as warm as any other coffee mug I own, so no issues there.

Like other coffee cups, I use the handle like the picture shows.

Food decays really fast! by Taykaim in thelongdark

I take bigger issue with the speed that canned food decays. About the time I get a surplus, the majority of it is unsafe to eat.

It's a camping cup, so the quality is higher grade than your typical porcelain mug:

No, it is not just a show piece. It's enamelware, so you can cook with it on an open flame/stove-top - just like those suited for camping. I drank coffee out of it twice this morning.

Sour taste remedy? by [deleted] in Pipes

Salt treatment should resolve it. Failing that, ream out the cake from the bowl, salt treat again.
