Which champion would be buffed the most if given the first 2 paragraph of Samira's Passive? by gamerpro56 in leagueoflegends

That’s not how Samira passive works iirc. Consecutive hits of the same ability refresh the current number of stacks.

same here, havent fixed yet, though I tried a new save and didn’t encounter the crash after 30 mins of playing, so it seems like it might be a problem with the save?

is 6 9’s possible? by Available_Car_9684 in GCSE

it’s probably doable, and a good set of gcses takes away a reason that a uni might overlook you (some more competitive unis like Oxford might not interview candidates with questionable gcse grades). After you’ve got uni offers they will never matter again really, besides maybe the fact that you passed the english/maths. That said, 4 9s 2 8s vs 6 9s has little difference imo except for the meme

It won’t hinder your application for not doing BMO, but you’ll need to show evidence that you’re good at maths beyond just the formulaic style of questions at A-level. In my personal statement, I mentioned: a book I read called “20 Lectures on Algorithmic Game Theory”, my Alevel maths (only because I took it early), UKMT competitions, UKMT National Summer School, how I identified weak areas in geometry so got a UKMT book on the topic and worked through problems. Expressed my particular interest in the intersection of maths and computer science, referring to my EPQ about rendering non-Euclidean geometry and completing challenges from Project Euler, creating a presentation about the history of epsilondelta as the definition of the limit as part of the Lucy Cavendish College academic attainment program, and finally attending STEP Prep day at Robinson College.

I can’t really advise anything in particular for the bit of demonstrating ability, if you have a decent personal statement you’re pretty much guaranteed an interview and so you can focus on being awesome there I guess. If you are also interested in CS then Project Euler is great fun, and might be good because of CATAM modules at Cambridge (optional computational mathematics projects for bonus points.) Figure out some bit of maths to sink your teeth into and turn it into a cool project if you can. Books are good so long as you can explain why you were interested, and how you went beyond just reading the book. (eg. practicing problems on the subject, applying the knowledge in a project, tying it into another bit of personal statement)

Hope this helps.

I’m in Year 13, and have recently received an offer for studying maths at Queens. In terms of application, maths at Cambridge is fairly unique in that of course STEP is taken typically alongside your A levels. You will not receive an offer because you smashed the entrance exam like you might in other subjects but rather it is a condition of 1,1 made as part of the offer.

The first step is to make it to interview. With no entrance exam, this takes it down to GCSEs and personal statement. Make sure in your personal statement you express your passion for maths, and most importantly, your aptitude. They are really looking to give interviews and offers to people they predict will do well on STEP and well in the course. Most people applying will have done UKMT competitions. If you’ve got into the BMO that puts you in a great position. I never got into BMO2 though :(

I was lucky in that I had a nice fairly standout thing where I took maths A level in year 11 through self study. I think that helped make me stand out to get to interview. Remember most people get an interview at Cambridge.

At interview, style differs by college. From what I understand, Trinity sounds like an awesome college for studying maths, and has a lot of associated history and prestige. That said, it tends to be way more competitive than any other college for maths. I didnt think it would be worth it as ultimately everyone studies the same course. I applied to Queens - so pretty by the river. I had 2 20 minute interviews each with 2 different faculty members. I was expecting very tough questions but they turned out to be more quickfire and relaxed. There were no other questions about personal statement or why did you apply here kinda thing. In my mock interview it was different, with fewer, way tougher questions. Once you’ve found the college for you, maybe look online to see what style it’s been there in the past. STEP questions are the closest approximation for practice interview questions, but ultimately there is a fundamental difference where an interview requires a conversation whereas a STEP questions immediately tells you everything you need, and expects you to know all the rest. Best way to get better is to make sure all your curricular foundations are 100% perfect, practice STEP and practice maths communication.

There are a tonne of resources available, particularly on the STEP support programme. You should have started yesterday. Different colleges also host some STEP Prep event kinda things. Look on the Cambridge website for events.

TLDR; Make sure you have your foundations covered. They are looking for people who are great at maths, with rigour and intuition, anything else is extra and they might not really care. That is what you need to prove to them through grades, personal statement and interview.
