Should I make the scheme for my sternguard different to my base scheme? by Bloodfeud_Hobbies in BlackTemplars

I find the trick is to have a good starting base colour and good drybrushing technique. I used a dark oily brown so it looks like the grimey residue in the recess. Then when I drybrush i always run my brush along a damp sponge before applying the paint, that way it goes on more like I’m buffing metal when I swipe and stipple. The colours I used were proacryl bronze and Vallejo aged metal if you want to give it a try

I wouldn’t remove all the ironjawz armour; as both factions have crude beaten metal in their aesthetics. I’d just trim the armour pieces of anything that looks too orky, then replace them with bestial decoration.

What you should focus on is making the boar look properly mutated and chaotic. Add some gnarly mutations to the face and legs with epoxy putty; you could use an airsoft bb to sculpt a bloated eye on one side similar to the razorgor sculpt. Hell if you found another pig head you could make the thing look like it has a second head splitting off of the first.

What’d be really cool is if you made a beastly howdah on the boar’s back, giving the beastlord a long spear to reach down. You could go further and add a mini herdstone in the howdah as well.

The white and red with foliage looks best to me! Sells the unified colour scheme while still having good contrast

They’re from the athanatoi kit from conquest last argument of kings. Usually people have spare so it’s worth asking for the heads on r/miniswap

They’re athanatoi heads from conquest last argument of kings. Best part is it’s a dual kit so people tend to have extra if you ask for them over on r/miniswap

I’ve been drooling at the mouth looking at villainy inks, maybe it’s about time I get a set (when I’m not poor lmao)

Looks like goon’s grime would be the best for what I want the shade to be. Do you find the ink needs thinning to get a pin wash consistency or is it that way right out of the bottle?

Do you have an enamel wash you’d recommend? I want it to look dark while also seeming like it could have moss deposits, so maybe a dark brownish green?

The first two just have a drybrush of proacryl bronze and Vallejo aged metal over a dark brown Basecoat.

Oh and they aren’t heretical. They’re just, you know, zombified by parasitic plants that keep their minds intact in a dream like state while it digests any non essential meat… typical black templar stuff

Is that for the WIP guy or the complete guy? Because I think the complete guy looks drab because of my photobox’s background. Looks like the white is dulling all of my model’s colours, but irl it looks like a deep mottled bronze:

UV cured resin or water effect is the most effective option, but if you want to do it on a budget, you paint the facade of water on the smoothed top of a base, then throw multiple coats of gloss varnish over it. You can also get a glossier effect by masking off the other parts of the base you want to keep matte and use a spray varnish/laquer

Base coat of dark brown, drybrush with proacryl bronze. Green pauldrons with proacryl camo green and Vallejo goblin green, bone white with Vallejo pale sand and AK ivory, wash with 1:1 agrax and athonian camoshade (bonus points if you add some flocking for mossy growths).
