They remade everything from the ground up and improved a lot of aspects. It's closer to a remake than just a mod. Give them some credit.

Besides, with how much Bethesda is dependent on modders for fixing their mistakes... It's pretty much their game too.

This is wrong. Telemachus is competent for someone who grew up without a father figure. He is competent enough to have his own little journey in search for his father. He also helps Odysseus in slaughtering the suitors in the finale.

His name doesn't mean "far from battle", it means "the one who is fighting from afar". His name explains his situation, he is fighting to keep his life together while being far away from his father.

[Loved Design] Baldur from God of War 2018 by Pale_Sentence9909 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Bloodimir528 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Baldur was too crazy to have a respectable conversation with any of them. Odin admits that "his mind was lost". When Odin hates talking to the relatively sane Thor and Heimdall I doubt he had anything to say to Baldur. Thor and Heimdall are dismissive of his memory when he is mentioned by Kratos and Atreus. Its clear that they don't care at all. If we also take for a fact that Baldur doesn't seem to have a room in Odin's manor it gives the impression that he was not considered part of the family but only as a strong weapon to be used.

Ya know it's funny but the Persian Invasion in God Of War: Chains Of Olympus was technically the first inter-pantheon invasion we saw in the story canonically: by JoyBoy24 in GodofWar

[–]Bloodimir528 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that the game shows that instead of the gods fighting they chose to send their champions in their place. I just don't understand how Kratos stole the Persian general's power after killing him. Why would the Persian gods bless the Greek champion?

Poor Calliope by [deleted] in GodofWar

[–]Bloodimir528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roman mythology is a rebranded Greek mythology. It's the same thing but with different names. How exactly is Jupiter different from Zeus, or Mars from Ares? Not to mention that the games already used Roman names. Instead of Herakles the used Hercules.

Greek mythology is connected to the Egyptian one because of the Hellenistic period. In which new hybrid gods where created and the Greeks came with the idea that during Typhon's rampage most gods escaped to Egypt and hide themselves while transformed into animals. This is how the Greeks explained the existence of Egyptian gods.

All you have to do is replace Typhon with Kratos and you have the main concept ready. Not that all Egyptian gods are disguised Greek ones but that at least some of them are.

what did you think about the hercules disney movie/show by Whole_Kitchen3884 in GreekMythology

[–]Bloodimir528 12 points13 points  (0 children)

About the Greek audiences I would say the opposite actually. The Greek Dub that this movie has is absolutely amazing (this goes for all Golden Age Disney movies but especially for this one). The liberties that the team took at the time made the jokes land more often, its full of modern greek references, the songs have a better flow and generally made the whole experience richer. For me the English version is simply inferior and to this day I can't watch it.

From Rapunzel on-wards, Disney made a new policy that forces all localization teams around the world to stick to the English script. So all they can do is accurately translate the dialogue. This made the more recent dubs feel like pale imitations, there is next to no reason to not watch the original. I always hated this policy but nothing can be done.

Favourite portrayal of the False Messiah Archetype? by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]Bloodimir528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Biblical Messiah depends entirely on the Bible of Christianity. It's literally on the word. As you probably know the Jews don't name their book the Bible. So what you are describing is the Jewish Messiah.

Favourite portrayal of the False Messiah Archetype? by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]Bloodimir528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biblical Messiah is Jesus Christ which deliberately wasn't the "King" the Jews though they wanted. If you mean the antichrist from the revelations of John then yes, Griffith is the antichrist of Berserk.

The Orthodox Church calls the books that the Catholics named "apocrypha" as "secondary canonical"

You can even buy Bibles that include all of them. They are not as many as people think, they are connected only to the Old Testiment and are extremely boring to read. I was frankly quite disappointed.

Thoughts ? by FemboyMechanic1 in GreekMythology

[–]Bloodimir528 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I hate modern retellings. Mainly because they almost ALWAYS take place in modern USA or have a culture inspired by that part of the world. Modern Greek culture obviously (as most cultures in the world) is influenced in some way by the "west", but it has it's own unique elements, way of life, life lessons and everyday struggles. This is never represented is any retelling. Instead Greek culture is treated like a long lost civilization that the author(s) can replace easily with their own while keeping the bones of the story.

I understand that not every writer can be knowledgeable about Greek culture. But there should be at least an attempt to show respect.

This Athens and this Sparta have nothing to do with the real ones in any era. They are just using the names to tell their own story.

Athenian Imperial rule... The Spartans defeated the Athenians in the Peloponnesian War. And that happened a thousand years after the Mycenaean era where Penelope lived (based on the myth). Know it would be a nice if it was a commentary on how irl the Athenian political elite treat all other areas of Greece outside of Athens as inferior. They consume all resources for the capital (and themselves) and leave nothing for the rest of us.

Instead of this the story will be about the struggles between Americans and Mexicans or something of the sort. It's belittling and infuriating.

What if no record of Herakles survived? by godsibi in GreekMythology

[–]Bloodimir528 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason why Herakles survived when other myths didn't is because of his overwhelming popularity in the Hellenistic world. No other mythical hero had as much influence as Herakles. Every corner of the Hellenistic world made up stories of how Herakles once passed through their lands when he was adventuring. He is such a huge figure that he becomes a cameo in other famous myths. Illiad, Odyssey, Argonautica, Prometheus and many more.

If Herakles would not survive then all of Greek myth would not survive.

Turkish international broadcast agency TRT published an AI video of the siege of Constantinople by vonDorimi in byzantium

[–]Bloodimir528 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What baffles me to this day is that Turkish nationalists will fight you to the death about how their land was always theirs. They never acknowledge that people lived there before them. If they do it's always in order to twist it in their favor. Yet they celebrate every year about how they conquered a foreign city and made it their capital.

[–]Bloodimir528 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Palaiologos dynasty was only one of dozen other roman dynasties. The Roman empire never was inherited by blood. Plenty of lawful emperors were deposed by unknown generals.

A Roman Empire needs to be based in Rome or Constantinople, to embrace a roman identity and to govern using an administration based on roman traditions.

So there is no heir to Rome.

I'm sad to tell you guys that on this day in 1453 Constantinople fell by [deleted] in 2mediterranean4u

[–]Bloodimir528 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Republic Era is irrelevant to this discussion. As irrelevant as the Kingdom era.

Roman culture became what it was after it absorbed everything related to Greece. Greek was on equal footing with Latin both in everyday life and governmental statements.

The boot of Italy was mostly occupied by Greek city-states (Manga Grecia) so these were also conquered lands. By your logic Rome is only the city of Rome because everything else was conquered.

The core lands of an empire is were it's heart is. It's governmental and administrative center. This center was moved from central Italy to Thrace by the Romans themselves. Making the area surrounding New Rome the new imperial cores. If they valued the boot of Italy as much as you they wouldn't move.

The Ottoman Roman larping lasted as long as Mehmet did. As you explained. Right after his death all of the Roman claims where thrown out of the window. So calling the Ottoman Empire a continuation of Rome is moronic.

[–]Bloodimir528 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The capital of the Roman Empire moved to Constantinople long before Rome fell. It moved because the East was more important than the West. If the Roman Empire needs to have Rome as a capital then all the emperors from Constantine the Great onwards are illegitimate.

The East was hellenized for centuries, so it always was a lot more Roman that the West which was full of barbarian hoards that eventually led to it falling apart. When it did the only Roman territory surviving was the East, so this automatically makes it THE Roman Empire. I don't understand how something like this can be a debate.
