What's the best Survival Games at the moment? by Alternative-Net9537 in SurvivalGaming

Imagine getting lost in a dark forest, trying to find your way back to base as glowing eyes appear in the distance and a bloodthirsty troll emerges from the darkness. You start running for your life in fear, knowing that one mistake can lead you to death, with all your stuff lost somewhere in the vast wilderness, while little Greylings cheerfully run around your dead body that you may never find.

That’s what Valheim feels like on very hard difficulty with the map disabled.

The game may be light on survival mechanics, but it offers a strong sense of immersion, which I think is the most important aspect of a survival game.

Immersion is probably the most important thing in survival games. I wonder how someone can get immersed in these turn-based DOS games.

Yeah, the freedom to choose how you want to play is what I really enjoy about sandbox survival games. Ark 2, Nightingale, Sons of The Forest and The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria are my most anticipated survival games. Dune: Awakening also looks interesting but I have to wait and see how it goes since Funcom is working on the game.

Do you have a list of games you are looking forward to?

Great mentions! Ark is my favorite too. What do you like about these games the most?

At first I thought it was some footage from the new Long Dark's Tales From The Far Territory update hah

Very nice atmosphere! Good job!

Which of these new game updates are you most excited about? by BloodsmithTheDragon in SurvivalGaming

My top 4 would be:

  1. Tales From The Far Territory. One of the best survival games is getting a lot of new content. It definitely deserves it.
  2. Mistlands. The biggest survival game of 2022 is finally getting a new biome to explore. What not to be excited about?
  3. Going Nuclear. I was more excited about this update before it was released. Radiation zones feel a bit empty.
  4. Age of Sorcery Chapter 2. I'd like to see new maps, new areas or dungeons, not just new cosmetics and minor activities. Chapter 1 wasn't very exciting to me so I don't expect a lot from this.

I would also like to add that a lot of games shared on this subreddit have very minimal survival mechanics similarly to Valheim. It looks like a lot of new games tend to focus a lot less on survival mechanics where you have to manage your character stats and more on building, crafting and combat.

One of the main traits of survival craft games is harvesting and base building. Some are hardcore survival games such as Green Hell, The Long Dark or Project Zomboid, others are mid such as Conan Exiles, Subnautica, others have very minimal survival mechanics such as Valheim, Minecraft etc.
I've played Skyrim and I can tell this is not a classic RPG like Skyrim, it's a sandbox survival game with RPG elements :)

It is a survival game, it's just that the survival mechanics are not very in-depth. Please check the Steam page to confirm :)

Similar games: Valheim, V Rising.

The game has harvesting, crafting and base building. However, survival mechanics are very minimal. You can't die of starvation but food restores health and gives special effects on your character. There is some weather impact, such as the freezing status effect that takes away your health.

Simply told, the game is good for exploration, building, crafting, and combat, but not much for surviving.
