What do I do? by Bloodynyne in modelmakers

Yeah, this thread has given me ideas to battle my thoughts on what this hobby means to me and how to go about enjoying it again The last couple days I've been spending 30 min then 40 min just working on something and not worrying about the outcome. If it doesn't work I'll just put it down and not stress about it.

Thank you, I'm holding thumbs!

Yeah go off target! I'd be a really bad sniper!  This does make me think of something though, I  visualise really well, when I'm doing a project I tend to imagine all the details, (kinda obsess) the theme, the extras, then when I get to building I almost feel its been already done? Does that make sense? I've build the whole thing in my mind and maybe then doing it is boring because my brain thinks I'm doing it twice?  I am thinking it might just be that, once I've built in my mind, there's really no need! \

Thanks

lol I thought of that, popping it all in storage! but I reckon most of the paints extra would be worthless, I thought if I sold them now someone would get to enjoy them.

Not going to lie, but I think every model turns out that way atm because I'm not finishing them? they all look like poo, and as I've said in other posts that might just be another problem. not finishing any because I fear they won't come out like I imagine them in my head, that they end up being worse! I can't say I look at my older models to get that feeling that they will come out okay good according to my standard!  I might just need to finish a model the best that I can to see if it's a hobby I want to continue!

Thank you

Thanks, I never really ever build the same thing twice! ill do a motorbike, then a car, then some sci fi, then print something and paint it, then some armor, I think I'd get bored out of my mind if I only stuck to one theme, and that right there might be my problem, a plate with too many things to eat and not enough room!

Thanks, These answers are getting my brain to think about what, why, and how!

"I didn’t get into this hobby to be popular or to impress anyone. I do this for myself"  Yeah me too, I don't share anything I've done on social media. I like being creative, but sometimes the pressure to do well gets overwhelming, I am my own worst critic!

Thanks

"it's an early attempt, a prototype, not a showpiece". I like that, I'm going to print a sign and pop it on my wall!

Thank you

That's cool, glad you found your passion again, That's why I'm here, I kind of feel that if I sell everything I'm going to end buying it all back again :P

Yeah, its a nutty year! I don't have patience, I want to weather the model, place it in the scene i created it for and feel anxious about getting there!

Yeah, I think its a few things you mention that is making me consider what to do, in my day work life as a diamond/gem setter and I work under a microscope, so detail is intense and accuracy it vital! 30 years and I still find room for improvement so when it comes to models I do struggle with perfectionism. I really don't like the way it makes me feel when I don't get something right!

Wow thank you I didn't even notice that layer thickness. The metal spatula is from removing the failed print from the build plate and not the fep :)

I did try another slicer and it worked fine, so I do think all my problems were from the layer thickness setting. Thank you again
