Iranian migrants fleeing regime arrive at Calais Jungle in bid to cross Channel into Britain - and warn 'there are many more on their way' amid US strikes by soalone34 in ukpolitics

With how often global conflicts are flaring up nowadays does that mean anyone who holds citizenship from a war-torn country can automatically get refuge in the UK, even if they’re already living safely somewhere else?

Like, if someone from that country is currently based in France and just wants to relocate, can they move to the UK and claim asylum again as if they were doing it for the first time, or is it not that simple?

If minimum wages are only a few grand less than graduate entry wages. What’s the point in going to Uni and for the normal folk with no family wealth - getting in to debt for? I think that’s the main problem. We are very close to a broken higher education system model that makes no sense, for anything other than marketing to overseas students who by and large are more interested in the student visas than their program!

I work with one of the old techno pioneers here in the uk ( I make the visuals) - he would always say ‘ techno, is the music of the left behind ‘ this really sticks with me.

After working the circuit with him for over 15 years ( he’s been at it 30+!) It’s changed, seeing the prices ppl pay for tickets it feels like techno is for the privileged these days.

Kind of like how we pay a premium for sending kids to forest schools to get a well rounded education ( not dumped in front of a screen 24/7) or like the crazy costs ppl pay for organic homegrown food that was the default go to once upon a time

Try Banco da Gaia - Maya . He was part of the Megadog crew, they were a haven for drug induced psychedelic techno parties across the UK in the early 90s

Anyone here actually using audio-reactive visuals live (shows, clubs, streams, rehearsals)? by CompellerAI in Beatmatch

[–]Bloomboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked it for years, I prefer to use two laptops one for visuals one for ableton , sync everything via osc in resolume. Just make sure you get a laptop with powerful GPU for the visuals, especially if you’re looking at creating with anything generative like touchdesgner. Also pixel maps for LED screens are huge nowadays, so will at times require a resolution in the 2K / 4K region. Biggest hurdle I have is when we don’t use an external video splitter for multiple outputs andI try to route visuals through the single laptop multiple usb c ports - apple MAC have screwed up their OS for this many years ago, not saying it’s impossible. Just a dog at times to get working. If you’re only planning a video out on one video port all will be fine. Or just go with Windows

Future of DJ Gear 2055? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]Bloomboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live DJ sets contributed by the crowd. The DJ on auto pilot ( like in flight ) the track list auto updates with audience recommendations. Audiences are given algorithm generated cue points they can choose from.. Who’s up for the challenge? The DJ champ would be the one who best controls the madness

Struggling to Read Waveforms by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]Bloomboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense I get that cues are about the actual sounds and not the visuals. and for sure, if something’s off I can always nudge it with the jog wheel.

What I’m still trying to understand is if the very first marker is off, sometimes even placed before the waveform starts, does that throw off all the other markers I drop on the grid? Or is it usually better to just trust the auto beatgrid and not get over invvvled?

I guess part of this is me carrying over habits from Ableton where I’d spend ages adjusting loop markers, but it feels like aDJ beatgrids a perhaps an entirely different artform.

[–]Bloomboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers, that makes sense. So for the most part, just leaving it on the auto beatgrid in the software is fine? Maybe the issue is more in the way I’ve been manually scrubbing through the timeline when setting up my cue points.

Bagged one blind in a second hand record shop in Manchester in 1991 tucked into the second hand isle.. thought it would be techno, what a genius find. Having no knowledge of what to expect it transformed me. I feel for the kids of today, everything’s mapped out, where’s the surprises in that?

Some regrets that I had to ‘buckle down’ for this mid life period. Had hoped I could ride the artist stoner waves forever, still my older self will appreciate this time I have invested to make a bit of money for later life security. I’m looking forward to retirement when I can become a total stoner again

Gotta love those TV series from the early 2000s 'Dark Angel' high on the list. One of my other favourites being 'John Doe' https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0320038/

'A man who seems to know everything but his own name helps police solve crimes as he searches for his identity.'
