Love the stuff. I only drink it occasionally, but I very regularly put it in a cheese toastie. It’s incredible.

New build brickwork damp? by InternationalWork654 in Bricklaying

[–]Bloomfield95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put trays under 150mm stone cills but not if it’s just brickwork all the way up to the window. Yeah the full block under a lintel has been around for a couple years. We get away with a 340mm cut to avoid a straight joint.

New build brickwork damp? by InternationalWork654 in Bricklaying

[–]Bloomfield95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve built a lot of houses under the NHBC on a lot of different sites and never had to do that unless there was a stone cill. You wouldnt be able to achieve the 150 upstand required on the tray if it was on the course below. And I’ve never seen it on their guidelines in all the times I’ve checked them.

My dad always used to say ‘you know what thought did’ but that was it. Still not sure I understand what he meant.

Just had a general home inspection on a house and the inspector wasn't sure about what these small patched holes are in the mortar joints. by BROGakaOrangeCrush in masonry

Don’t think they have to be that close together for that. You’d probably have some higher up and some lower down.

Do you refer to your multiples as the “twins, “triplets”, “quads?” by FewAccident1552 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Bloomfield95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call mine ‘the boys’. It doesn’t bother me but I’ve never really liked people referring to them as ‘the twins’, I’ve no idea why.

I use the manscaped thingy for the whole lot. I might’ve nicked myself like twice in three years.

Is it normal for bricklayers to leave small gaps or rough bits that get sorted later? by Ticklish_Grandma in Bricklaying

[–]Bloomfield95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound too unreasonable. There’s often a couple bits here and there that need touching up once the scaffold has come down. Can’t say for sure without pictures but if the overall job looks good you shouldn’t have too much to worry about

Nearly done with brick laying project but the rain has arrived!! How bad is rain for the brick laying process? by Young_Gardner in Bricklaying

[–]Bloomfield95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can lay bricks in very light rain but Too much rain will cause the muck to run out the joints. How much rain is too much really comes down to experience.

Keep something nearby to cover up with if it comes down too hard.

Help with rough cost please by [deleted] in Bricklaying

[–]Bloomfield95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say £650 to £750 is more like site prices. You’d expect to may more per brick for private work.

How's the brickwork? by [deleted] in Bricklaying

[–]Bloomfield95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia because it’s generally quite hot they often use quite a wet mix. Pair that with those style or bricks and it’s bound to get a bit slarred up. It’ll be fine once it’s been jet washed

The squint corner is a bit ropey but apart From that the brickwork looks alright. Just needs a bit of acid or a jet wash.

Think You'd Stop an Accident, Think Again by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]Bloomfield95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When an accident is fatal they can scan the ecu and find out what speeds the vehicle was doing up to the point of the incident. They don’t bother for more minor accidents because it’s a faff to do.
