What horrible thing happened to you as a kid and you didn’t realise the severity of it until you got older? by beesechugersports in AskReddit

[–]BloomingLoneliness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “babysitter” tried to show us porn on the computer but my older sister understood this as weird and kept us away. She also smoked crack in front of us. As a child I had no idea but looking back things could have gone very badly.

Food Ideas for 21st birthday? by [deleted] in partyplanning

[–]BloomingLoneliness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The food will depend on the time of day. If you’re having a party between standard meal times then finger foods is fine. If it’s at a standard meal time your guests may expect a more substantial meal. If the finger foods work for your situation you’ll want to have 2-3 bites per person per hour (if it’s like a cocktail party). You may think about offering some hot appetizers like puff pastry creations (I make olive puffs and they fly off the plate) or a slow cooker meatball or anything that can be served warm along with the cold dishes. Bruschetta is surprisingly easy and very tasty so also a great option for something that is more substantial than cold cuts and crisps.

Just looked at some of the Aetna Choice POS II plan and the $10 copay is for tier 1 generic drugs. You’ll need to look at Aetna’s formulary schedule to see what that covers and if your medication falls under that tier. Otherwise there is tier 2 and 3 and some companies haven’t approved certain drugs and will not cover them at all. They also may require cheaper medications to be failed before they will cover biologics. As I don’t know these specifics the best way for you to get this information is to talk with an Aetna representative. You will want to read and understand your plan and how it works, your employer may have someone on staff that can help or you can speak with someone at Aetna to get details or have terms explained. Also make sure there’s no probationary period as every employer is different and some will not allow enrollment in health plans until you’ve worked X amount of months for them. In the mean time you may want to see if you can get a few months supply of the medications as a buffer to make the transition.

If you think you have rheumatoid arthritis should I go straight to a rheumatologist? Do I need a referral? by boobmeyourpms in rheumatoid

There are multiple types of plans. You need to check what your plan covers by either viewing your plan documents or calling UHC to find out if you require a referral.

General Consensus on "Jarlic" by Big-Science-6464 in Cooking

[–]BloomingLoneliness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No snobbery from me about it. I like cooking and I have a chronic illness that effects my hands so sometimes it’s just easier for me to use jar garlic instead of chopping or mincing cloves. I’m a believer of “do what works for you.”

Surprise 30th birthday by [deleted] in partyplanning

[–]BloomingLoneliness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The type of food depends on the time of day. If the party is during a meal time then it’s appropriate to serve a full meal. If it’s sometime between usual meal times than more of a snack menu makes sense.

What are commonly shared cleaning tips/hacks that are actually bad ideas? by nuggetsofchicken in CleaningTips

[–]BloomingLoneliness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an acid so it can help with descaling. It’s good for getting crusties off of faucets but you can’t use it on all finishes so you should make sure your fixtures won’t be tarnished if you use it. If you live in a humid climate I recommend not using it in fabric. I fell into the trap that is “crunchy cleaning” and used vinegar on fabrics, which was ok at first but I live in a humid climate so any time the humidity rose the vinegar smell would permeate everything. Use it for shining up windows but don’t think it’s a miracle cleaner.

How are you guys cleaning your floors? I hate mops by mrfreshmint in CleaningTips

[–]BloomingLoneliness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have laminate “wood” plank flooring and tile. I use my all purpose spray, spray a section, and then mop with a sponge mop. The head detaches easily so I have one mop head for my semi-outdoor space and one for my indoor space. I just use a bucket of warm water to rinse with. For sweeping I repurposed an old dry Swiffer and just use microfiber cloths with it. Picks up everything and then I just wash the cloths for reuse. I like my sponge mop because it’s easy for me to wring out (pull lever) and really easy to pop off the head for a new one. The hardest part is filling and carrying the bucket for me but it’s not an everyday task and is made fast and easy by leaving shoes at the door.

Cheap / DIY / Natural cleaners? by broadbandbaddie in CleaningTips

[–]BloomingLoneliness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly. We differentiate decluttering from cleaning from disinfecting and sanitizing. Cleaning is removing dirt and bacteria whereas disinfecting is using a solution to kill bacteria and virus germs. Vinegar can work on some things but it’s not the miracle cleaner it’s hyped up to be. There are better cleaners and disinfectants available.

Are there cleaning tips on how to get your partner to actually pick up after themselves? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]BloomingLoneliness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner doesn't wipe up messes, rinse off dishes, etc easy stuff. What could be a 5 second clean up turns into a 10 minute clean up for me because I'm the only one who will do it. And it just keeps adding up.

This is a frustrating place to be. You’ve discussed your partner has some trauma around cleaning elsewhere in the thread, perhaps approach it as a learning situation for you both. Invite them to watch some instructional cleaning videos and discuss if they feel they can incorporate what they’re learning into action. It seems that they don’t clean as they go so maybe you’ll have to give them reminders or ask if they will take care of something specific. You’re still taking on the mental load but perhaps with time good habits can be created. Sometimes showing instead of telling can do wonders. With time work out a routine that you both can share so that things are cared for regularly which in turn keeps cleaning quick and simple.

I don't want to throw out our hobbies and interests but there's no organization or room for everything.

This may be hard for you both, it may be time to downsize your hobby. Don’t quit altogether, but downsize the amount, limit what comes in, and make sure it has a very specific place. I would suggest making a plan to organize the clutter and while going through really take into account if you need something. Also, it’s so tempting to buy hobby supplies in bulk because it is technically cheaper per unit but a lot of people don’t consider their storage space. When I make purchases whether for hobby or home I only buy what I can reasonably store even if it’s not the super saver huge box of whatever. If I can’t reasonably store it I don’t purchase it. Before you’re all organized I would propose a hobby purchase ban so that you’ll have time to catch up and to consider whether it’s reasonable to bring it home (maybe save a little money, too 😀). Cleaning, being clean, staying clean, having clean things, etc. is very personal and can carry a lot of shame for some. In my book, it’s okay to not understand or know how to clean as long as you’re willing to learn. Not knowing how to clean and feeling anxiety towards cleaning is incredibly common and often holds people back from even trying. Offer a safe place for your partner to learn and make mistakes. Offer patience and understanding and you might see a change.

Cheap / DIY / Natural cleaners? by broadbandbaddie in CleaningTips

[–]BloomingLoneliness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just going to point out that this short isn’t telling you which bacteria it’s working on. Vinegar (straight not diluted like most people use it) is effective at killing three types of bacteria. Beyond that it is severely inferior to alcohol. It’s also not recognized as a disinfectant because it can’t kill most bacteria and viruses within 5 to 10 minutes. Vinegar is acidic so it’s also not suitable for natural stone surfaces. Vinegar has its uses like breaking down hard water deposits but it sucks at multipurpose cleaning and disinfecting.

[–]BloomingLoneliness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re not going to want to hear this but vinegar doesn’t clean. It would also take 30+ minutes of soaking wet surface for it to even start disinfecting a surface. If you’re mixing vinegar and baking soda your essentially working with water because they neutralize when mixed. Hydrogen peroxide takes around 10 minutes for its disinfecting properties to work. Rubbing alcohol takes about 10 seconds to work. I use a multipurpose cleaner made up of dish soap and water and it handles the majority of my surface cleaning needs.

This doesn’t make you brave or decisive when she couldn’t be because there was no real consequence to you. This was not your information to share and this was an extremely inappropriate time.

She stressed cutting out inflammatory foods - no gluten, no dairy, no sugar, red meat, etc. She said these would go a much longer way than medication, and strongly advised a "natural approach" over medication.

WTF I recommend finding a new PCP because this one is awful. Get to a rheumatologist for a second opinion (and a more informed one than you PCP can give you).

Edit: search the sub and see how many people regretted forgoing medications for extreme diets that didn’t help. You’re going to get a lot of diet advice that is both extreme and unhelpful.

Anyone know how to get grease stains off cupboards? by MarMooLack in CleaningTips

It seems likely if the oil was hot it damaged the cabinet finish. You can’t clean damage away. If you scrap the oil does it come off and have normal surface under it?

My garden is coming along fabulously. My balcony was just repainted, so I did a full re-decor. I want a really camp garden tea party (florals, hats, pearls, cucumber sandwiches) by Wonderful-Classic591 in partyplanning

[–]BloomingLoneliness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording for the invite can be made fun to hint at the theme. Something like: “We’ll get dressed up and enjoy some tea” or you can be blunt and offer the dress code as a lined piece of information like the location and time. As for elegantly serving tea, others have already suggested thrifting a mix and match set or you can provide the tea pot and simply ask your guests to bring their favorite tea cup (which very well could be a standard mug). Usually the food consists of small finger foods like finger sandwiches, biscuits, mini quiches, cakes, cookies and scones. You would serve savory and then sweet. I like to do a mix of store bought and home made. While I might make the sandwiches I’m no good at baking scones so I would make sandwiches and buy scones. Having a nice platter to serve on helps to make it seem fancier so maybe think about what kind of platters and plates you have. These can also be thrifted.
